Hello, I recently tried to play a few different games on my PS3 and they are requiring an update. About a month ago I rented Black Ops 2 and it updated fine, but now I'm getting an error 80710723 and nothing is downloading. I've tried a few port forwarding guides, I've turned off the media streaming option, I've also changed the DNS ports on my system and nothing is happening.
For reference, I start up a game (Particularly Dark Souls, and Max Payne 3), it says "Please wait..." for about 5 minutes, then the download screen comes up and it sits at 0% for about 5 more minutes, and then it says that I have an error. I have full access to the PSN store and can stream media and access the internet on the system, but it won't update any of my games.
I'm having the same issue, called support, ran thru the whole rebooting of the router and system, and was told there was nothing that could be done. Support guy said its not a problem with my system, but a problem with my network and to call my network provider., or wait a day and see if it fixes itself. Everything else works, PSN store downloads are fine. Connection test is fine. I can only hope the problem is on Sony's end, everyone updating their new Xmas gifted PS3s. For reference I have FIOS, I disabled UPnP, Disabled Media Server, and put the IP in DMZ.
Its 3am, the problem has improved. Was able to update Netflix and is taking 24 mins to update Hulu Plus (19MB file). Certainly not fixed but a huge improvement from before. Really think its a problem with too many people updating their PS3s after getting them for Xmas.
I have been having the exact same problem this week. I just called PS3 support and after resetting my connection and testing it (which worked fine), the customer service girl put me on hold to go ask her "Tier 2" tech team what to do. They came on and said there is currently a known problem with Verizon's network communicating with the Playstation network. They said they are working on it and it is affecting all Verizon customers. They said they should have it resolved by this Monday or Tuesday.
So if you have Verizon, that's probably the issue. In the meantime, you can go to your network settings and disable your internet connection, which will likely allow you to at least play your game for the next few days. Then you can enable it next week and download your updates.
Hope that helps!
