Re: DNS error 80710102 resolved

Jul 29, 2009
i have a similiar, if not the exact same problem. out of nowhere, my ps3 wont connect to the internet...when doing a connection test,  the ip address will successfully be obtained, but then the internet connection will fail and the message "DNS error 80710102" will show up on my screen. i looked online and every possible solution doesn't seem to work. i looked at the settings on my router, and they seem to match the settings on my ps3. i've reset the ps3 settings both manually AND automatically, and NOTHING!!!! please help!!!!

Re: DNS error 80710102 resolved

Jul 29, 2009

I recently switched to Verizon and my PS3 isn't connecting to the internet because of a DNS error 80710102. I did the same thing that I did for comcast and it didn't work.

But I have found the DNS servers and I put everything in manually and still nothing. Does anyone have any advice or anything...This is really frustrating.

Re: DNS error 80710102 resolved

Aug 13, 2009

Well, I've resolved my issue and thought I should pass on the info.  My situation seemed a little different as I have my internet through a cable modem with no router.  I basically unplug my cable from the computer and stick it into the PS3.  I would get the "IP address cannot be obtained" thing when I had it on auto.  So, I manually entered all the info (ip, dns, etc).  That's when I got the DNS error everyone is having.

Okay, the solution could be either of two things or both.  First, more logically.  I changed my network settings on the PS3 to match what the playstation folks (and other forums) tell you to do for wired connections (< Settings, < Network Settings, < Internet Connection Settings. Select "Custom" (not “Easy”). Select "Automatic" where it prompts you to (such as IP address settings). It will not bring you to DNS settings. Under "DNS Settings" select "Manual". You will then need to input these numbers manually for Primary DNS: 208.67.222.222. For the Secondary DNS the numbers are as follows: 208.67.220.220).  Then, I unplugged my Ethernet cable and reset my modem.  Next, I plugged the cable into the ps3 and tested the connection.  It worked.

Now, it could also have something to do with the fact that I set up an account (free) with OpenDNS and am using their DNS (which is the same addresses as the ones above).  They prompt you do change you DNS addresses on your pc from auto to their specific ones.

Well, I hope this wasn't confusing.  Again, this is the fix for those in my situation (modem only, wired connection).  Hope this helps.

Re: DNS error 80710102 resolved

Sep 3, 2009

The issue I was having was with a wireless connection to my roommate's linksys router. I'd turn on my PS3 and it'd try to connect to the network automatically. Sometimes it would act like it did and then bump me off. But everytime I turned on my PS3 it also bumped my laptops internet connection for a second. The error I would get from my PS3 said DNS error (80710102). I went into playstation.com's knowledge center and found this answer and it looks like it fixed the problem!

Disable Media Server Connection ? Hide Details

This feature allows the PLAYSTATION 3 to connect to DLNA Media Servers on the same wireless network. However, if this setting is enabled, it may interfere with Internet Connectivity.

To disable the Media Server Connection:

  1. In the XMB™ home menu, go to Settings icon (Settings) >
  2. Select and press the X button icon button.
  3. Highlight and press the X button icon button.

I hope this helps someone!
