Ps3 freezing issue! Please help!

3 replies 34786 views Edited Mar 6, 2012

Ok, so for about 2 weeks now my ps3 has been having extreme freezing and reading problems. It all started on MW3. I was playing then after the game was over the scoreboard was showing the scores before returning to the lobby it just froze and that's where it started. After the about 2 games it does that now, EVERY time. It's not the normal freeze either, the only way to turn off the system (besides unplugging it) was to eject the disc and then it reboots.

Also since this has started, when playing Call of Duty: Black Ops zombies, my guns would be invisible every now and then and just like MW3, it would freeze before a loading screen every time after 1 or 2 games.

Not only is this doing it on just Call of Dutys, but you put in Dead Isalnd and after 30 minutes of playing, the same freeze would happen. Also on Uncharted 3 online, after I would finish a game, it would freeze on the scoreboard or even sometimes in the lobby.

I have been through so MANY troubleshooting ideas and nothing has helped. I don't want to throw a lot of money into when I could just go buy a new ps3.

These are the troubleshooting things I have done:

*Put a lens/eye cleaning disc into the disc drive (made for ps3)

*Restored the whole ps3 and started from scratch

*Did the safe mode trick and It said my hard drive was corrupt but I tried safe mode on a friends ps3 and his said this too and he barely ever uses his ps3.

*Took apart the whole ps3, cleaned the fan and cooling unit

The only thing I could think it is, is the disc drive and it's having a reading error? Or maybe the hardrive since it said corrupt?

I have looked all over the Internet and nobody has had the same freezing problem as I do. Smiley Sad

Please help! I would truly appreciate it! Smiley Very Happy I want to be able to play disc games again!

Did you find an answer? Can someone give an answer, anyone I'm having the same problem with mine. It plays only when it wants to for up to a good 3 hours freezes randomly and freezes on start-up. I just want to get through FONV and other people are having the same problem and this is my 3rd PS3 tired of wasting money on these **bleep** machines...

If u have a corrupted data just delete it and as a second option try to reinstall the game data. In the worst case u have to change ur len, or HDD. Good luck!

The first thing you could try doing is sending it back to Sony if you really want to. Because they are the ones that made it, they will certainly be able to fix the annoying ps3 freezing, but that certainly comes with a very high price. You could pay about $150-200 just to repair the ps3 freezing issue and you might not have your console for 1-2 months! Can you deal with that? Can you really do without Solid Snake and that massive alien invasion for an entire month? If the answer to that is no, then there are a few things that you can try by yourself as far as fixing the Ps3 goes. First of all you could try searching for loose cables within the system. This could cause a problem, and this is especially true if there is a loose cable on the actual hard drive. In some cases it might be necessary for you to replace the hard drive which would be pretty easy considering that the Playstation 3 uses a standard SATA hard drive. Because it is most likely an overheating problem it couldn't hurt to have a look at the fans. There is one large fan on the bottom of the console that is vital to it's operation, so make sure that one is actually working. If it is not, then you should either replace it or put a cooling pad underneath the Playstation. As luck would have it (or not), many other people have run into the Ps3 freeze problem themselves. There are some that have managed to fix the ps3 freezing problem on their own, and they were nice enough to put together guidebooks that you can learn how to repair ps3 freezing problems. These guides will cost you some money, but not nearly as much money as you would be paying to ship the console back to Sony. On top of that, you won't have to wait 6 weeks for your console to be repaired! These fixes are usually quick and easy and they work like a charm if you follow the instructions step by step.
