I want to buy the xperia play phone but I don't want to make any contracts with phone companies like At&T or Verizon's, 

Is any of the following unlocked at purchases : 

 Xperia PLAY R800i/R800a/R800at 

 Xperia PLAY R800x 

 Xperia PLAY SO-01D 

Basically can I get the boost mobile plan with any of the 3?

Sony doesn't sell unlocked Xperia PLAY phones in North America, but you can buy unlocked R800 series phones online because they are available in Europe.  All of the unlocked Xperia Play phones use the GSM network technology, so none of them can be used with Boost Mobile; which uses the Sprint network.  GSM phones can only be used with the AT&T and T-Mobile national networks in the USA.  You have a few more choices in Canada.
