I hope I am not rude by saying this but, this post is not needed, Systems work fine without coolers especially seeing as most systems come with a fan in the inside of the machine, so that the game doesn't get to hot. Systems will have long life if you give it proper care

with proper ventilation, and room (free space for the console to ventilate) you don't need an external, or additional fan. So I have to pretty much agree here. The systems, or any electronics for that matter come w/ the proper ventilation, and fans to keep the core cool. It's up to the consumer to make sure they place it in a proper space which allows fresh air to circulate, and get into the fans, and the system. As for prolonged life, well I've done just fine over the ears w/o an external cooler. So I'd like to see a study that would actually prove coolers prolong the life. As for it being a mistake if they did make their own cooler. Well it gets proper ventilation when used, and placed properly so how would it be a mistake? It would only be a mistake if they required people to buy them.

If that is true then it seems Sony was trying to give us the most powerful system ever, but it just it was catching on fire.

I remember years ago, reading, that the PS3 was litterally catching fire in the development stages (rumor? or not?). Whatever it was Sony had to tune down the actual power of the PS3 in order to make a safe console w/o getting into Water Cooling, or running up the bill on the PS3 even more than they already had. So imagine the power that this thing could have.
