Possible PS3 price drop.

10 replies 203 views Edited Jun 24, 2011

I'm not sure if this has been posted already. I'm sorry if it was. But, this is definaly news. There maybe a possible PS3 price drop coming by August. See, http://ps3.ign.com/articles/117/1178883p1.html. It maybe $199. It's not confirmed, but it is possible.

So, would this interest anyone here? If you haven't bought a PS3 yet, would this be enough to help you decide?

Ubisoft and Michael Pacter are also predicting a PS3 price cut this year. It probably won't be down to $200, most likely $250.

That's mostly speculation. Then again, where would video game "journalism" be without it?

Well wouldn't that be something. A PS3 that sells for less than the 3DS (besides stuff like eBay and Amazon).

And then the Vita would come out and it would cost less than that too....

FYI That price is in GBP. £1.00=$1.60 so £179=$285.75 not including VAT which is 20.0%. So the final cost is $342.93...

Added note; VAT= value added tax it's kinda like a national sales tax...

I price cut come August would be a good thing for me as I do need to buy a new PS3. And $200 for a PS3 sounds like a dream.

I do not think we will see a price cut and like someone said before, I think it is more speculation. But I would welcome a price cut with open arms.

I don't think there will be a price drop for a while, and it sure as hell won't drop down to 199. That is absolutely ludicrous to think that the PS3 will only be $199 soon, that won't happen for at least 3 years. I suppose MAYBE in a year the PS3 drops to $249, but that could interfere with vita sales since the vita is also $249.

Don't expect any price drops any time soon. Though you still could get more value out of you $299, such as the PS3 being bundled with a game, things like that; but no price drops.

My current PS3 is starting to make some funny noises... again. If it does decide to kick the can sort of speak it will be cheaper to get a new one and forget repair. Although backwards compatibility was the main reason I kept repairing my old one. But we shall see. I personally do not expect a drop just yet especially after all the E3 activity. It may however drop with the release VITA.

Cheers, Brrnout

According to MCV, the UK games industry is expecting Sony to announce a pricecut for PS3 at this year's Gamescom.

Trade insiders are said to be hoping for a recommended retail price of £199.99, allowing stores to sell it at £179.99.

Codemasters boss Rod Cousens said, "I would anticipate a further price cut on existing consoles prior to Christmas.

"It'll probably happen around September and Gamescom may be interesting. But there's also time for a further cut next year, before Wii U is out."

Sony has said that it doesn't comment on rumour or speculation.

Gamescom runs from 17-21 August, and IGN will be there keeping you in the loop.

When you see those buzz words, that means someone is speculating, and just blowing smoke out of their you know what.
