I dont think this is a rip-off.
If you get absorbed in the story and play enjoying what the game offers, when you have finished it and enjoyed it you probably will want to repeat it again, and there might be that nice nostalgic feeling of "too short", as in it was so great...
But if youre a speed demon and just beat the hell out , and just want it to keep bringin more, then not a single game will satisfy you and the "too short" will be an angry one.
I have clocked over 300 hours for FFXII twice, and i would do it again; not for the exaggerated playtime but for the fun, the beauty, the story, and am looking forward to FFXIII.
I have played non RPG titles for the PS3, and while i really dont remember the times i took, i took the time to enjoy it, not simply beat it. Bottom line? i have no complains about their length.
Somehow i see lots of you playing a game with lots of tutorials, faqs, guides and dloaded savegames...And youre surprised that the game feels short? Go figure..

My 2 cents: Even @ 10 -20 hours you're paying $3 - $6 an hour. What other kind of entertainment can you get for that price? I don't feel ripped off at all. If you conisder replay value added by online and trophies, $60 for software is more than fare, IMO.
I'll make sure to look out for the Whhhaaaambulance, though

I may not be the oldest gamer here at 35 but i am up there....(well almost..lol) but the point i think is...yeah a shooter may be better less time, and an rpg may be better longer time yet why do they cost the same? should less time in gameplay be cheaper? and more time should be moire expensive....if i pay 60$ it should be for a long good game, 40-50 if its short isnt to bad....but for a game i can beat in 8 or less hours i think it should be 35-40....the problem is that nowadays its the name that gets more money....if they took a game name like megaman and put it on the old pacman game theyd sell out because it was called megaman...Also with the new DLC that alot of games have 60$ for a game is a little high when all the extra stuff sells for 5-20 as dlc..makes no sense whatsoever....but if you the avg gamer want to pay 60$ for a game then they are gonna keep selling them for 60$ and since if i want a game bad enough ill pay 60$ for it i guess theres no use worrying over it..lol
