You are kind of restating my question and not really answering it. I already know that 3D games on the ps3 are going to be 720p. My question is do people think this means developers are going to stop developing 1080p games?
I personally think this would be a mistake. I don't care how hard Sony pushes 3D it isn't goign to take off at least not for a few years if ever. In this economic climate people are not going to invest in a 3K TV especially if they just bought one anywhere in the past three years. Fruther more the inablity to mix and match glasses and tvs and there being limits on the number of glasses that can work per tv really pose barriers to the adoptation of 3D in the house.
I bought my 1080p tv to play 1080p hd ps3 games not 720p games. I hope developers don't abbandon 1080p
My understanding is that the majority of PS3 games are designed to run in 720p, some games may have the "1080p support", but when given the choice the PS3 will select the 720p setting, unless you force it to display in 1080p. It is my understanding is that the PS3 isn't powerful enough in most cases to do 1080p native games. It will probably not be until next generation until we see 1080p native support standard in all "PS4" games.
So 3D or no 3D, I don't think you will see any difference in what developers do in terms of 1080p support. They will allow the game to support it if it makes sense.
Are you saying that all ingame real time rendering is done in 720
Yes. This goes for Microsoft as well....
I typed a long response... submitted and got an error... great...
so the spark notes of my 1st response:
If 3d is made into games (which i think it wont last just like BETA disc and HDDVD) it would have to be a feature you can turn off and on due to the limited market size of HDTV's so with that the case, they could make it where non 3d is in 1080 and then have the hardware down convert for 3d to 720, it can convert it as it is from 1080 to 720 to 480 depending on the TV (from a non hd tv to a 720 max tv to a full 1080 tv)
So no, i do not believe it will hinder development of above 720 games.
That is just LAME lol
There needs to be a disclaimer on the box or something then because saying a game is 1080p but in reality meaning only a small portion of the game is actually in 1080p is extremly misleading :-((((((((((
When will people learn resolution isnt the sole determining factor of quality graphics. More important things like texture quality, lighting, frame rate, etc make a good looking game. You can have crap at 1080 just like you can have gold at 720.
Besides, you benefit from the 1080 on blu-rays.
Of course there is more to graphics quailty then max resolution. A crappy game is a crappy game regardless of what resolution it is rendered in; I am not saying that because the game is in 1080 it will look amazing. What a higher resolution does do though is allow for finer detail definition. If a game looks great in 720p then just imagine how much more detail would be realized in going to 1080p if the work was put into it.
What a higher resolution does do though is allow for finer detail definition.
it doesnt actually
the level of detail depends on the texture quality. If the texture was made to be rendered in 720p, its going to get slightly distorted when its blown up to 1080p.
A texture in 1080p on a game that has a massive amounts of polygons like uncharted 2 or killzone 2 takes a huge amount of resources to render. That is the trade of developers on both consoles are making, better textures at a lower resolution
Just because its a bigger number doesnt automatically mean its better.
Lets face it. HD is HD, whether its 720p on a regular HDTV screen, or 1080p which is just 720p but on a bigger screen, more lines to produce, to get to the 3D theory, i think that it will be a hit or miss market, it would be wonderful for the movies, but honestly I think personally games should be left alone, some of them are cutting edge already, yes it adds fun and realism to the matter in some aspects. 3D is nothing more to see what consumers want and dont want, and I thought 3D will have its own view not HD etc... but a stereoscopic 3D image, but still maintain HDTV aspects, like the yellow white and red cables you see on HDTVs that still can connect to vcrs' dvd players, Playstation 1, 2 consoles etc.. But to sum everything up, no i dont think developers are going to trash 1080p, and only make 3D games, but use it more as an additive for those who are early adapters and will buy the 3DTV's. Also why would you want to see more 1080p games, 720p would actually be easier on the developer to make a game (less memory used), 720 dont look bad its actually a standard now, if i recall correctly.
or buy a screen protector which is in fact a 3D emulator that you plaster to your screen, thus giving 3D effect. All this in fact if they even make the screen protector that I speak of.
