Re: Western Frontier Discussion Thread

Nov 25, 2013

I for one have no problems with Western Frontier...yet. I've been easily making gold and trade tokens simply by playing the shooting gallery over and over, even made over 2000 tokens once. But now after about 4 days of its release I noticed something. Almost every single minute I turn my back on that mini game, the score increases. From when I last checked it was over 9000 (no DBZ puns). Sure even if I get silver I can still make tokens but then I will lose my gold income. I mean what kind of game increases there prize output scoreing practically every minute? I hear that the only reason the score keeps rising is because people keep scoring WAY over the gold rank minimum thus increasing the average score and thus altering the minimum for the 3 rankings, so if I had to guess the only way to fix this is to score low but I dought it would work. I'll say this for sure the only reason I'm still playing is ONLY cause I can make the gold and silver marks for it, but if these increases keeps going, I'm defiantly not going to spend money on something I don't need to.

The points needed for each Medal changes regularly based on the performance of all contestants. The rules state this on page 3.

Sorry for the bad pic.

Anyone else having problems staying in one outfit?

I went into the Western Wardrobe where you can put together outfits and then save them into save slots.

I put on my bar maid outfit and exited the Wardrobe.

The rest of the afternoon that I was there doing the events so that I could get the Campsite Personal space, my avatar was morphing in and out every few seconds from bar maid outfit, to the default western outfit, to the silver ghost.

The server never did settle on one outfit.

Oh and another thing. I bought the bar maid bundle with hair that goes with the outfit but when I enter the Western Frontier, it will only let me wear the defaulted hair with the cowboy hat, so what is up with that?

The bar maid hair wasn't even listed in the wardrobe, but the chaps I purchased and the bar maid dress, were both in there.

Hey PYAWAKITT i saw another user wearing the barmaid who couldnt stop morphing from that outfit to another. And this was in the Stagecoach holding cell! It looked like it would be very annoying. Report to support about it I have a weird feeling it may be an issue with the Barmaid outfit itself? Just a guess. Good luck.

I'm having the same problem with the barmaid outfit. My BF played for hours to gift me the green barmaid outfit and now everytime I try to wear it in the any of the western spaces (other than the saloon) it glitches back and forth between the barmaid/the default outfit/ and ghost. Please help and get these issues resolved! Beyond the insanely frustrating and unfair currency trade system...it is beyond aggravating when the items you finally are able to attain can't even be worn without glitching. Thank you.

My critique and suggestions for this place.

The WASTErn frontier is a horrible waste of both time and money, in the worst way possible. I have not seen a more unfair and ridiculous system then the trading post in all of PS Home.

I knew from the start it would be horrible, but after visiting the space and trying everything for myself...it was multitudes worse then I thought.

First of all, panning for gold and mining are monumental wastes of time and effort. Reults like +3 gold for panning and +9 for mining per session? When stuff costs 250-500 gold? Oh heck no, especially since they are also tedious mind numbing chores I just want to end. The panning especially drags on far too long.

So obviously, the only way to get gold without losing your sanity doing menial, tedious, and even physical (in the case of panning) tasks, you must buy gold directly.

This would be fine if you could just use gold to buy stuff from the trading post directly. But no, you need trade tokens. You win trade tokens by playing games or by converting gold to tokens. 97 gold for 1 token...when stuff costs upwards of 300 tokens...are you people out of your cotton pickin' minds?!

So you go to play games for tokens, but this has 2 problems. 1) All the games are terrible. I'll review each one individually later, but suffice to none of them are worth spending money on. 2) The token payout rate is abysmal. I got like 16 total from playing all games once. Most games don't even reward tokens.

So the only way to get the trading post rewards without draining your sanity is draining your wallet. 97 gold for 1 token...I'm horrible at math, but about what does this come out to just buying gold? The 2000 coin plus items would cost well over 50 to buy that way.

This is beyond stupid. Let me give a brief review of each game individually.

Shooting gallery: A typical Midway style game, in which you must have super human reflexes in order to get and maintain a high multiplier. Unfair for the average user, though not AS horrible as The Midway. 8 tokens for such a high score is sickening.

Showdown: This game is relatively fair, but the cost is a bit high, always requires another person, and doesn't give tokens.

Stagecoach racing: This game was decent, but the entry fee is too high and requires SEVERAL other people. EDIT: I just tried on my alt and came in 2nd place and recieved 14 tokens. Not sure what first place prize is. There is a bonus payout for setting the fastest time for that day, but that is near impossible for the average user not skilled at racing games.

5 finger fillet: Absolutely pathetic and mind numbing but with no room for error no token payout.

Blackjack: Nothing new here, same as casino, and no token payout.

Liar's Dice: Ok, this game is far too complicated to even figure out. For the average user not interested in these types of games, it's absolutely mind boggling. I couldn't even read through the rules, my mind just glazed over in the same fashion it did when trying to figure out Craps at the casino (craps is much easier though).  This game has the highest payout, but only after winning a 5 person game...and even then it's only for 16 tokens...16...when things can cost 2400.

So let's move on to the rewards themself, shall we? They are actually amazing. Lost of nice looking clothes for women never done before, like the duster jackets that I'd instantly purchase in the mall. However, they aren't worth the $50.00+ I'd need to spend in order to convert gold to trade tokens.

The ranch house is also incredible, but no one beyond hackers and the overly affulent will be able to obtain it. At least the casino penthouse was fair.

Finally, before my list of suggested improvements, my final complaint lies within the space itself. Forcing us to only wear old west clothes in the same vein as Pottermore was a bad idea. That's one of the main reasons everyone hates that place. Now I'm not saying the clothes are horrible, in fact I love them, but the fact that we can't wear our own hairstyles or glasses severely ruins the enjoyment.

Ok, so onto my list of suggestions:

-Higher payouts for panning and mining, and make them in units of 5. Say 25 gold per panning session and 50 per mining session

-Lower the cost and increase the payouts of all the games, mainly the trade tokens. Again, make the trade token payouts in multiples of 5, like 25, 50, ect.

-Make a single player version of showdown and stagecoach racing against CPU opponents

-Make a pickaxe a permanent item instead of consumables

-Have the option to buy trade tokens directly in fairly priced bundles and/or change the conversion rate of gold to trade tokens 1 gold=1 token.

-Create new ways to earn trade tokens directly

-If you simply CANNOT allow people to gift themselves, then make a active "gifting post" for apartments and allow users to gift themselves. Make it have the same items as the trading post, but use seperate gifting tokens, thereby creating a loophole in the reason you "couldn't" add self gifting to the trading post.

-Allow us to wear our own glasses and hairstyles, and change the bandanas to headphone slots.

This space has a LOT of potential if these suggestions are implemented. However, in it's present state, I refuse to even spend a dime outside of the clothing items I purchased from the store, and I do not wish to lose what little is left of my sanity panning for gold.

I know Home is currently in a very uncertain state, especially with the userbase leaving for various MMOs and PS4. We are also currently acitivity deprived in Home, this is the first new thing in months.

However, this place is such an utter drain of time, money and sanity, that I'm going to say this. If this is the kind of stuff that will be keeping PS Home alive from now on...just let it die. Nothing but content updates each week is not the way to keep it alive, but neither is a time/money/sanity waster like this. I thought Home Tycoon, peakvox ninja, and HGL were bad. Well they actually look like fun and worthwhile investments compared to the Old Waste. As of right now, I'm never returning to this space until some changes for the better are implemented, except for testing and clarification purposes.

VERY true.  I think it has potiential but sheesh, it feels like such a money grab and relies on people playing with others, espeically in a racing way, which is harder, IMO, than card games.

This thread is sure inactive for a relatively new and expansive space.  Only a handful of posts in the past month for a space that has only been around 5-6 weeks.  For Digital Leisure's sake, I hope that it's not a reflection of the Western Frontier's traffic.

I know that I have not visited the space in a month.  Is the Frontier a ghost town already?
