Well thanks for the detailed response...it's better then I thought, but the steps of buying/winning gold, THEN winning trade token, THEN trading just seems like too much effort to be worth it.

On the other hand, I desperately need something to actually DO on PS Home...

I guess I'll wait to see what the rewards are though, if I like them I'll just do all the work with an alt and gift myself, because once I get enough tokens, I don't want to wait around for a trade.

When designing the Western Frontier, we took what we learned from Casino an applied it to this game. There are things we like and dislike about the casino. For example we like that we have a lot of rewards for people to get, but we dislike that people couldn't really choose what rewards they got, they just had to grind through the items that perhaps they didn't want to get to the better ones. A lot of those unwanted items (like T-shirts) ended up in storage.

So when we were at the round table we decided that we would remove the intermediate tier rewards and put them in a place where users could choose their rewards. So instead of playing and  leveling up to tier 1 and getting a hat (that you may or may not want), you could play and get enough trade tokens and choose from a variety of hats or whatever you wanted. This is where the tokens came in. Now to make a very long story short, due to restrictions we couldn't have players directly select items, so we went the gifting route.

Gifting in our casino had a limitation to just people who were your friends. We wanted people to be able to "gift" to anyone. We also wanted people to not get cheated if they gifted someone who didn't gift back, so we turned this gifting mechanic into trading. So you could get enough trade tokens to do a fair trade with someone who has the same amount as you. OR you may only have enough tokens to trade for a low valued item, BUT someone generous, who has a lot of tokens, could trade you the item of your dreams for that low valued hat.

The process is very streamlined, it's not too much effort. Everyone else will be looking to trade as well. You can even go post a trade, then run off around town, and your posted trade will still be there. You'll then be alerted when someone wants to trade with you no matter where you are in town.

It's great that we can skip the t-shirts destined for storage, but...may I ask why we wouldn't have been able to directly select items, as you said? Other spaces like Sodium Hub, Mui Mui Ship, Acorn Meadows Park, Southern Island and Disgea Lounge allow us to use earned currency to choose our own rewards.

Yeah, I again appreciate the detailed response DL, but I really don't see a reason why we can't directly select our rewards when most, if not all other lounges with a currency system allow us to choose our own rewards without the need for gifting, trading, or automatic rewards.

Mui Mui Ship especially, since is one of the first, if not THE first, currency based reward trade system in PS Home. One would think with all the new technology advances in Home, something as simple as choosing your own rewards would be a given...

Again Very long story, i'll try to shorten it as best I can.

In The Casino we wanted people to be able to choose their own rewards, but we weren't allowed due to the nature of the games. It would have been too close to real gambling if people could redeem tokens for rewards. It would have been deemed online gambling and there is a clusterdust of legalality issues with that.

In Western we still have gambling mini games in the saloon, so legally we can't have players directly select their rewards with the tokens. It would be too close to true gambling. But giving someone else a reward for your play isn't considered gambling since it's not a personal gain.

Hmm...on the Mui Mui Ship and at Disgaea Lounge, we literally bet on races, earn in-game currency and choose our own rewards. I don't really see the difference. :x

Those were the guidlines we were given, so we had to follow them.

Are these spaces in both EU and NA?

Or you could just play with an alt account, and then gift your main account the items that you want.

So that would mean not just grinding for coins on one account, but now two, if you can't find someone to make a trade that you both want.  *sigh*

I', going to try and be patient and wait and see how this space truly works before getting to down on it, but my level of enthusiasm has dropped significantly. :smileysad:

Sony's PlayStation Home updated mission statement...

"Like it never happened"

Gifting is still an option with friends, so you would only need to play with one if you were just going for rewards.
