Re: UPDATE #20 - The Next Best Thing Riding Into Home - Digital Leisure

Seems like an awesome space.

I do not know if it has been requested already, but can you link the Old West Saloon to this space somehow?

The buffalo at launch will not have any special animations. We are currently at the memory limits. Also the buffalo will not be aquired with real currency, you'll be able to trade for it in the trading post.

Ah... The mysterious "Memory Limitations" :smileywink:

Maybe some devs do a better job working around memory limitations I suppose, as some LMOs have more than two moving animations and R1 animations than others.

As for trading post... So you mean we have to 'work' to earn the LMO?  If so how long do you estimate that it would take the average user to earn it?  Time has value, so even if we aren't using real currency to get something, in some ways items that are 'free' are actually extremely expensive when you consider the time spent to get them.

*sigh*

This is just making me think that this new space is going to be another grinding machine. icon_eek.gif

We are not sure how fast the average user will progress in the Western Frontier. When we launched The Casino we throught it would take the average user a very long time to progress through three tiers. We were wrong, and everyone progressed very qiuckly.

The trading post is like the gift machine where you must rely on someone else getting the item for you. So the Buffalo, being a higher valued item, will be worth a lot of tokens. You could either do a fair trade with someone and trade someone a buffalo for a buffalo,  you could do someother high valued item for a buffalo, or you could trade a low valued item for the buffalo if someone is generous to ue their trade tokens for you. (Or someone could straight up gift you a buffalo)

Yes, if you want to play for free there will need to be more time spent in the game, than if you are going to pay to play. However the grind may not be as bad as you think, just try it out at launch at least before you choose if you want to play or not.

Hey I am all for this space.  For the last few months I have run out of daily activities to do on home.  Ever since I completed my fossil museum and orb runner I have been a loss for something to do on a regular basis.  Bring it on DL as I am ready and need a reason to keep me on home and your new space certainly has my interest peaked!

We will be making it possible to travel to the western frontier from the Old West Saloon (personal and clubhouse) to the Western Frontier at launch.

Or ..... like DL stated you can buy a 12 hour pick axe that boost your gold earnings, so basically consumables.  Ive already bought into the pick axe idea and I like to work smarter not harder, so if DL is offering an item that will boost my gold intake with the same amount of work.... Im Sold!!  No questions asked :smileyhappy:

Well as DL said, I suppose no matter how you feel, until it's actually released and we have an idea how long it really does take to 'level up' or collect gold we can only speculate - but it does amaze me how many people complain about pricing, but have no problem spending an hour grinding for a single reward - as if their free time has no value.

Even for someone who feels their free time is only worth min wage, if it takes an hour to get a 'free' item, it really isn't free at all.

Granted, not all grinding is created equally, and some devs do a great job to make the 'grinding' very entertaining, but this is usually the exception and not the rule.

Also, rewards that are based on skill and not just how much free time someone has to get them are certainly worth earning, but these again are the exception and not at all the norm when it comes to Home rewards.

One thing that makes leveling up/grinding in the Casino tolerable is that the games can be fun, in some cases they reward players with better skill/strategy than others, and you can easily socialize while playing them.  Unfortunately, this is also the exception and not the rule when it comes to many of the 'games' in Home that require grinding.

This is why when talking to friends in Home these games are often referred to as "my daily tasks" like Peakvox Labs, Aurora, EDO, Tycoon, and many others.  When a game is considered a task, you know something isn't right.  And when you stop and really start to calculate the number of hours spent to earn these 'free' rewards, it can be quite an eye opening event.

For instance, even after spending over $20 on boosters it can easily take a couple years or more to go from level 1 to 130 in Aurora - and without spending money on booster, well forget about.  Home will likely be long gone well before they reach level 130, as it would take several years.

I suppose we will know soon enough how long it really will take to collect gold in this new space, but considering they have been working on this project for this long and that it sounds like it is close to getting released... And yet they wont give an estimate how long the average person may take to collect gold, I'm definitely concerned.

To me, just the mere fact that they are selling consumables, and the consumables are good for only 12 hours tells me this is likely going to be a massive time consuming grinding activity... But hopefully not, or if it is, they seriously re-evaluate their grinding system before this gets released, as they may end up with a lot fewer participants after the "new" factor wears off.

If this is like the Gift Machine, then real currency is required - as you have to use it to purchase the 'tokens'... Or are you saying you can earn tokens for 'free' (free at least for those that do not value their time)?

Also, if it really is a higher valued item, I hope this means it will be worth the same as similar LMO mounts, and have a similar amount of animation options.... as having just two moving animations and no R1 special animations is already making it lose value in my book - and that says a lot coming from someone such as myself that has purchased dozens and dozens of LMOs.

Trade tokens cannot be purchased with real currency they are rewarded in games.

and don't worry, everything is also valued relitive to other items. :smileyhappy:

Gifting huh...can you "gift" yourself items, like the 3D printer? Otherwise that just killed ANOTHER huge chunk of my enthusiasm and I likely won't even be bothering...

You can't gift yourself an item, but you'll be able to trade someone for whatever you want. Let me try to explain how the trading works without being able to physically show you.

So say you're just moseying around town, and you think to yourself, "Man, I am just tired of moseying around on my own two feet. I want  to take the load off and ride a magestical buffalo around town." So you walk over to the trading post and browse through the catalog of items. You find the buffalo and select it.

Now you'll have two options. You can post this trade proposal so that it appears for all possible trades. Or, you can post it so that it appears for all fair trades, this will show trades for you that are equal or lower to the value of your item that you posted.

Next you'll select someone who has also posted a trade. The value of their item can be lesser, higher, or equal to your item. Or, someone can propose a trade to you. You'll now enter the trading phase. A pop up will appear for you showing the two items that are to be traded. You will then use your trade tokens to pay for your trading partner's item. Once you both agree to the trade, the items are exchanged and the trade tokens are used.

SO to answer your question, you cannot directly gift yourself, but if someone were to trade with you it's kind of like gifting yourself in a round about way.  You are choosing the item that you are receiving.

Or you could just play with an alt account, and then gift your main account the items that you want.

Well thanks for the detailed response...it's better then I thought, but the steps of buying/winning gold, THEN winning trade token, THEN trading just seems like too much effort to be worth it.

On the other hand, I desperately need something to actually DO on PS Home...

I guess I'll wait to see what the rewards are though, if I like them I'll just do all the work with an alt and gift myself, because once I get enough tokens, I don't want to wait around for a trade.
