Love PSN, Hate HOME

15 replies 1 views Edited Jul 31, 2008
Hey everybody, first off, I've had my PS3 since March 27, 2007, and love it. I love the way PSN had improved since it's launch, but one thing I think is taking away from PSN is HOME. What is HOME really? A lobby for people to chat and join games together? Yeah, and Ad filled auditorium (Qore), or a 3D version of PSN. It's all three, my question is "If the XMB and PSN are already established, why make a 3D version of it?". To me HOME seems pointless, we have In-Game XMB, but we don't have cross game chat, universal party support, cross game invites etc... HOME is supposedly going to correct/fix this, but insted of fixing it, wouldn't it just make things slower? We can have all of these features implemented in the Xross Media Bar to give it more functionality and convienence, making it more useful than it already is. I think HOME is a little too much, just consistantly adding features to PSN is enough, compared to this big project that's basically "SIMS Online". No offense but I think the PSN would be better without HOME. I want to play games, not decorate my apartment, I like to chat, but I feel HOME will take away from the gaming and add to the socialising, which in the end, will hurt the PSN or vice versa, people will just want to play games and no one wil be in HOME. Either way I feel HOME is taking away time from PSN and games.

Interesting...keep in mind that Home is completely optional.  Nothing mandatory about it at all.  If you want to use the current way of playing and socializing then continue doing so.  As to the matter of it being an addition or negative to the PSN I'd say it's an addition since it allows for another medium to get involved in all things Playstation.

You should have seen the PSN when the system launched.  The change from March 07 to now is big.  The change from system launch to now is ginormous.

The current way? So, HOME will be a 2nd way? Wouldn't that separate the community?

I don't think so.  Not using home will not prevent you from communicating with your friends in the current fashion.

Naw, it only expands it 10 fold. You will notice after launch. Watch your friends list blow up.

Not at all.  Home is just another representation of the XMB if you think about it.  You can pretty much do the same things in HOME as you would on the original XMB.  Communicating and playing games barely even change.  The community will always be in contact and you will be able to interact with the community in two similar yet unique ways of you choosing.

So whats the point of the XMB if we're gonna have HOME? Or is HOME just a slower 3D version of the PSN and XMB where people are likely to talk more than game? Either way, I think we could just have these features added to PSN instead of having a second life type thing, where your just slower.

Like you stated in your subject, some people may not like Home, and would prefer the streamlined functionality of the XMB.
