Yes. But this feature, we wanted to pre-announce so that our core users who might have several versions of backed up save files would have ample time to prepare and be aware of the change prior to the update.

Can you clairfy when the uploads will actually take place? Some of us use two PS3's and have multiple accounts. Will all the accounts on a particular machine be updated at the same time as the Home update is downloaded and installed or will it update the personal aaccount files as we log each account into home using the Home application?

After this update, will we continue to need to clear our cache and download spaces often? Or will all of that be stored online now?

GlassWalls is saying that if you have one Home account on more than one PS3, where often people may make their avatars appear differently and their same personal spaces decorated differently, the first PS3 with your Home account will be the one that will be saved on their servers. All of our Home saves (of that same Home account) will no longer be saved. So each PS3 that you log on with will have the same Home set up.

This announcement will give users a chance to figure out which set-up they prefer to save and to use that particular console to login once the patch is up. From then on, whatever console we log in with, we will only have one set up rather than multiple ones.

Let me fix it for White background users

Hi Home Community,

We're excited to let you know that we will introduce a new patch in PlayStation Home next week (Home v1.75) and we will be transferring your save data from the PS3 hard drive and onto the Home Servers.

This will generally improve performance and means that your save data will be available should you ever need to reinstall Home or login from a different PS3. Your save data will be transferred from your PS3 to our servers when you first install the patch. This process will only occur once per account and you will be informed that the save data transfer take place via an install message.

Once the transfer is complete, Home will only read your save data from the Home Servers. As such any backup data or saved data you may have on another PS3 will no longer be accessible.

The save data being transferred includes your Preferences, Character Saves and Apartment Furniture Layouts.

The transfer process will not affect your Purchases and Rewards which are already stored on the Home Servers.

Since this is unusual to pre-announce a feature of a platform update, it is to give ample time to our core users who may use several versions of their save files, manually updating them from from a backed up source—this is to let you know to put your main saves on the hard drive prior to launching Home the first time after it updates to version 1.75.

The rest of the official patch notes will be released in the blog the week it comes out. Get ready! There's never a dull day in Home.

Enjoy!

BTW JUST IN TIME SO I CAN GET MY NEW PS3 Without problem!

Re: [INFO] Upcoming Change in Home Save Files

Can we expect to see multiple save slots on the servers at any point in the near future?

How does this affect picture frames? Do our picture files need to be uploaded to the servers?

Will this patch increase the chances of item limit increases for apartments?

Will this enable wardrobe changes for apartment guests?

Thanks in advance, GW. :smileyhappy:

lol don't take this as the 1st post complaining about the "big news"!! Since I'm nowhere near a computer wiz & get easily confused, exactly how is this big news for us. Again I'm not complaining just need more of an explanation of what this will actually do since I can be slow at times.

If you're not a hardcore users who backs up and stores several variations of their Home saves, which includes avatar designs and personal space layouts, then this won't affect you. No muss, no fuss, in your case!

Well I preciate the explanation, yea I don't worry about furniture layouts, lol I'm a country boy & my idea of decorating is a lazyboy recliner, big screen tv, & maybe a deer or 2 on the wall lol, but I AM a hardcore Home user lol you should know since I've been sending you questions & complaints since the start of '09 ,.. so I guess I'll need to save my avatar settings on a thumb drive then

Conrad nailed it. This new feature also makes it a seamless experience to use multiple PS3s with your Home account and experience. That means that my own avatar will look the same from PS3 to PS3 (my personal machine at home, I could never quite get the face right—he's got a slightly more rounded face that just isn't me).

And to answer AzureBonds' question, yes, users will no longer be able to swap out their save files manually, so have your favorite ones on your PS3 the day you log into Home 1.75 for the first time because that is the set that will be uploaded to the servers.

ck2875—yes, you may no longer have to worry about your Home saves on PS+ AFTER you ensure your set have automatically uploaded to the Home servers. It can't hurt to keep them for a little bit, since they are small in size, but you should feel relatively free to remove them if you want to free up the space.
