Are "Pervs" the New Underdogs of Home Society

I would like to address what I feel is a new form of discrimination that bothers me because I feel it has become socially acceptable not only on this forum but in real life. This discrimination is the calling of people a "perv". This is only someone"s subjective opinion and they should keep it to themselves.   "Pervs" have become the new scapegoat just like gays and women and minorities were in the past. I have always been for the underdog and against bullying and scapegoating and have myself been a victim of bullying and other dscrimination myself. I am for freedom of speech and am not suggesting censorship but I am for raising the awareness level of people and I would like to point out when someone calls other people "pervs" I think it is more of a bad reflection on themselves than the so-called "perv" itself.

I don't get your point.  Are you saying you are a "perv" but don't appreciate being labeled as such?  DG

This is a troll, right? Because you have to see the difference between judging people solely on race, religion or sexual orientation and judging people based on unacceptable and antisocial actions in public.

oppossed to calling people noob, or other names based on age, race, religion, ect., being called a perv is usually because someone is acting perverted or like a pervert (i.e. making unwanted sexual advances towards female avatars)

Re: Are "Pervs" the New Underdogs of Home Society

The term may be over utilized but it does hold true for those who decide it's fun to harrass female avatars. In particular those who think squatting and putting their face in ones private parts and the like. In addition it relates to those who send objectionable PM's and use sexually suggestive language.

Certainly there is other behavior that is objectionable that doesn't do this but I would say that the term has been expanded to those who troll in general.

The term "perv" is used to refer to those who are committing violations of the TOS regarding sexual harrassment. If you feel that labeling such people in this manner is disrespectul, well, your objection is noted. But I would suggest that if certain people dislike being labeled as pervs, that they cease the behavior which is earning them this label.

Re: Are "Pervs" the New Underdogs of Home Society

I think the OP is referring to the over use of the word by people to label someone simply because they don't agree with their interests or view points.  Regardless of how benign they may be.

Obviously, using the term in reference to actions that are socially unacceptable is not an issue.  But using the term in reference to someone simply because you don't agree with their preference in clothing, or genera of movie, is an issue.

The parallel he is drawing to the use of the label gay, is very likely in reference to how that term was, and still is, used for the same effect.  Calling someone gay for liking something, or doing something that has no connection to their sexual orientation, or to sexual orientation in general.

Re: Are "Pervs" the New Underdogs of Home Society

I'm not aware of anyone on this forum using the term "perv" to denote someone who doesn't agree with their views, so I tend to agree with HIW that this is in fact a troll post. I am however aware of people on this forum using the term "gay" to denote someone who doesn't agree with their views, and that is extremely irritating. Every new generation of immature children feels the need to reinvent the English language, thinking they sound "cool" when they speak this way. Well, guess again. Calling someone or something gay because you don't like it doesn't make you sound cool, it makes you sound retarded.

I'd reserve judgement on whether AbysmalDawna is making a troll post. Maybe she can clarify her topic.

Re: Are "Pervs" the New Underdogs of Home Society

Those people seem to want that title.  How do I know this?  I've been on home for a few years now watching this behavior.  What happens to a offender in the real world when they act like that?  They go to jail and they get that title.  It should be no different on home in my book.  I know this isn't the real world.  However, people do want to come home from work with out some avatar bugging them and forcing them to leave.

It isn't needed, and the people being harassed feel the abuser deserves that title of a name.  If they don't like being called that title, they should chill out on the sexual encountering toward other real people.  It's that simple.  Women for one, don't like this behavior what so ever.  I know I don't like it but I deal with it and kill them with respectful kindness.
