If you totally restore your system it will set it to factory... You will have to add your account and redownload all your stuff.. That is my understanding.. For further clarification on what you want to do contact PSN directly..

Jimmy,

? and forgive me for my ignorance...I followed the instructions and clicked on the rebuild, and once completed my PS 3 was working , but I had not done the restore file system. So I started those instructions over....and now i am in the midst of restoring. Is it normal for it take as long as the rebuild...? Then also it never completes 100%, it gets to 98% and cuts off. What can I do about this?

It can take a very long time for the process to complete its dependent on whats on your system and the size of your hard drive... If your system is turning off it maybe that you have your "System Auto-Off" turned on..

Under Settings then Power Save Settings you will see System Auto-Off.. In there you have options to turn off or change the time before your system will turn off or never.. Change Game/Other Features to OFF..

If this doesn't help you I'm sorry and I would suggest calling Sony.. Good Luck..

The reason this happened was because yout turned your ps3 off while it was distributing data, you can easily fix this by doing safe mode which basically is what he's doing, except he's using it to clear up space.
