Today I got a message from 4 different friends that have been in HOME for a few years. The message was about some new kind of hackers in HOME. The message basically said:
"Hackers recently have learned a new way of getting at users now. Rather than freezing, people are attacking peoples individuals Internet routers. They can only do this by direct interaction, thus joining a group. DO NOT join random group chats with people you do not know or trust as upon joining they have access to your IP address and can send packets to disrupt your service for a set time."
Normally I would dismiss that message as pointless spam, but the people that sent it to me have been in HOME for a few years. So is there any truth in that message? Can anybody confirm that message? Or is it just a pointless spam message?

For something as serious as this, I would have sent a PM to HomeForumMods. It's generally not a good idea to discuss hackers and hacking in a public forum. It can cause panic and give others ideas...

You may not believe this but I actually recieved that exact same message from a friend just today as well. I read in another forum about some hackers being able to do that if you join a group chat as well.

It's 100% legit. Someone has come up with a script that can trace your IP address through voice chat. You generally want to avoid letting script kiddiez have your IP address.
Do not enter Group Chat with people whom you do not know.

wow, I assumed it was just spam.
I dont enter group chat with people I dont know, but I wish I hadn't deleted the message now. I will pass what you've said onto friends as I see them.
Thankyou HearltWow for clarifying this.

My pleasure...there's a thread around here from last week where SecretzSquirrel explained what's going on.
It shouldn't take Sony long to isolate the fingerprint of the offending script and brick anyone who's using it, but in the meantime, know who you Group with.

And always use protection.
I'm wearing one right now, and I'm at work.
