Re: can someone explain home to me?

Mar 1, 2014
Everyone who used to make the troublemakers want to hide in their private spaces have lost interest in home, and now they are wandering out into the public. Those... Mini mods.. Hall monitors.. Plastic police.. whatever the newest term is.. Have been replaced by a whole new meaning of acronym mvp.

(Does not apply to all)

"Home is what you make of it."

That's something that used to be mentioned a lot but seems to have been forgotten recently.

We can either focus our attention on the negative or the positive. That is our own personal choice.

As you can see, many of the responders have decided to give more attention to the problems of Home rather than those things that are actually good and fun. A few have decided to let others (troublemakers) determine what their Home experience will be like. Why? Maybe because it's easy to do.

We can always have happy times in Home by being proactive in playing games, sharing, interacting in a positive way, not deal with bad guys (other than by reporting them).

Don't let others explain to us what Home is supposed to be for ourselves. We can figure that out on our own.

We can explore Home and discover new things. Or revisit areas that we have forgotten about. Play games that we've haven't played in years. We can do it for free or we can spend some dough. It's our personal choice.

For some people, Home is a means of keeping in touch with friends or family who may have moved away. Home allows us to "hang out" at the pool tables as we used to do in real life.

Home is a way for those of us in the community who have physical, psychological or geographical limitations to go out in our virtual world and be "normal". Now we can dance everynight or just sit and chat. Our choice.

To paraphrase a friend, "Home allows me to walk."

Sure there's negativity, there always is in real life and on the internet. But there's also good things and good times if we want them, despite any issues or problems that arise.

The way you play the game is the way you live your life.

Home is a platform for users of PSN to socialize. That's more or less all it has ever been.

Home is no more full of havoc or chaos then then it has been, however as we are now in the dying days of the service Sony is not exactly putting forth a ton of effort to maintaining Home (not that they ever really did).

In its prime Home had a staff of 4 figureheads, CydoniaX the Community Manager, Locust Star and Buggie Techinca the Specialists, and GlassWalls as Head Mod. Buggie was not around for to long and eventually moved elsewhere. Glass moved up to Specialist (I am not sure who filled the head mod position I want to say Tempest Fire but I could be wrong. [Also when did Tempest move up to community manager? Congrats man.]). Cyd moved away from Sony, leaving Glass and LS to run the show. Glass moved on as well, and I honestly have no clue about LS (A bit of a search turns up he is still with Sony as a Senior Manger of Digital Platforms). That is as much as I know. Keep in mind of course this is staff that interacted with the community, there was always many more behind the scenes.

Its likely there is only a skeleton crew of mods still dedicated to Home, if any at all. There are no longer any community managers dedicated to Home and the Sony staff still working with the platform are assigned to "digital platforms" which would indicate they deal with more then just PS home.

And many of Home's more dedicated and helpful community members have long since left.

At this point the longest running constant Home is our own Jersqual. The fossil that he is

... which is probably the best reason why Jers is our unofficial "Home Historian", although, you seem to come close as of late. Welcome back to Home Forums, @Jim777 . Haven's seen thread from you in a very long while here (P.S. yes, thank you very much for the LocoRoco Island primer yhou authored a loooong time ago!).

To the topic at hand, Home is quite different from real life. Appearently, I'm pretty vocal in real life  - kinda have to be a civic leader and working in the movies. Smiley Tongue

What I and my SO have noticed though is that because the way the avatars are designed, there are only certain expressions and emotions that are coded, and yet, when the avatar's quite angry or upset, the facial expression does not even look upset. Even though there are real people behind these pixels, this is not necessarily a TRUE representation of that individual BECAUSE the avis MASK who we really are. Even in typed text, you can't be assured how the other person is feeling or communicating because people with ALWAYS interpret words differently.

As Home is a social medium, there will always be pros and cons to interacting with others. Some people log on Home to play the mini-games. Some collect the rewards (ahem, *raises hand*). Some choose to have relationships of varying forms (best friends or solely acquaintences, bowling leagues, clubs, etc.). Home can mean different things to different people.

As with social media in general, how you engage into the the social activity is up to you.

Its hard to say "what you make of it" when you are standing in a pile of **bleep**.. But you sir, have somehow pulled that same line off for close to what? 3? 5? 8 years now? How all the negatives that surround everyone else has eluded you all this time is simply beyond me unless that crap rolls down hill and you are standing on top.

You said all that and the only part i can allow myself to take seriously is how you mentioned standing around bs'n like 5 times and the games 0. On a playstation.. Which is made for games... Which gamers buy.... Because they want to play games.....

The way you play the game is what now?..

Hes not wrong though.

Home was only ever enjoyable when I was with my friends. It was very rare for me to just walk into a space and talk to stragners and have a good time.

My go to was to make friends on the forums, add them to my list, and then chat in Home.

So yea if you bring your own friends Home can be great. Of course this true for litterally anything ever.

I have never said that I have never had an issue with Home. Apparently many people misunderstand me somewhere. Nor have they ever seen that I do have issues from time to time and that the way I "complain" about them is by using the monthly suggestion thread or posting in PlayStation®Home Support.

Many of the issues people complain about I have had. But I don't have them every single day/week/month. And when I do have them, I report them appropriately. And even then, I won't let those issues dictate my use or enjoyment of Home.

I still have a great time in Home in spite of the tech issues, the harassers, freezers and kidnappers. They can never bring me down because they are so small to even be bothered with. I just report as needed and move on.

This is my last message in this thread as it's being derailed. Definitely this message is not explaining Home to the OP. If you would like to discuss this any further, please send me a PM or meet me in HOme or the XMB. I am very willing to do a text/video chat if you prefer.

That's it. Ciao!

The way you play the game is the way you live your life.

As in Home (and the rest of the internet) , it's easy to insult a fellow community member. Especially when you know that they wouldn't do the same to you.

Bye.
