You Tube Deal. The shape of TV to come in Home?

31 replies 24 views Edited Jan 16, 2009

You Tube has announced the creation of a version of it's site specifically reworked and targetted at game consoles with Internet browsers (obviously referring to PS3 and another japanese console). This will allow PS3 users easier access to YouTube content which of course can now be played on that big screen in front of you.

I wondering whether this might indicate the possible shape of things to come in terms of how TVs in Home might possibly be implemented. For example,  whennyou and friends are in your apartment or summer hourse (or other private location) and have a TV. If you all decide to watch something together,  I could see a feature not unlike game launching kicking in and simultaneously launching the same video from YouTube for each of those watching the TV together.  This woud allow TVs in our Home spaces t work, without creating a copyright liability for Sony since the video content itself is not streaming from a Sony server, and is in fact going directly from theYouTube server to the PS3 user.

Just a thought...

Oh, sorry, not you, the other guy. Please can you just let me play this game. No, I don't like that dance. No, you can't sit there. Oh, come on, would you just get up you immature jerk! Alright, I'm nearly done, can you please let me be so I can concentrate on finishing this game for now?"

Actually, Sony announced it yesterday.  The only problem is that you need the PS3 web browser to use it:

Makes sense though that it would only work on consoles.  After all, on a PC you're usually multitasking with several browser windows open at a time, you don't need a fullscreen interface to Youtube.  One thing I don't like with this interface yet though is that I couldn't get it to go to the Youtube HD videos channel, hope they get that implemented before too long (or maybe I just couldn't find the feature).  I saw some videos that claimed to be in HD but they weren't actually Youtube HD videos.

That shouldn't be a problem since the PS3 has a web browser, and Home uses Web protocols.

Don't be sorry it was already down to Page 4 in less than a day's time.

Yeah, the thread churn here is brutal, good topics seem to appear and then within a couple of hours they're buried deep on Page 2, and before long they've been consigned to Pages 4,5,6 or more never to be seen again.  I would love to see a little more active moderation merging some threads, deleting some of the pointless ones, or merging them into junk threads if not actually deleting them.
