SCE stated years ago that Sony would create the platform and be responsible for it's maintenance, functionality and security of PlayStation Home. The had said, way before Home was released, that they would rely on third party Developers to create the content that would help pay for this service.

This is akin to a big company creating and building a shopping mall while allowing individual companies to open their own store within the building. The big company will provide the maintenance and security of the mall while the individual companies will provide the income.

The Managers have little to no say in what content is made available in Home. That is not part of their job description.

That's it.

Well stated Conrad. Attention OP, this is the correct answer you were seeking.

different aspects of home are  controlled by different divisions and collaborate to ensure the overall developement and improvement of home.

the core client team based in scee london (a team of 40/50 headed by peter edwards) build and improve the core client platform with improvements based on their technical knowledge and feedback from third parties requirements and the expectations of us the users.

the core client team openly aknowledged that the items within home are now mostly done by third parties.

the third parties are bound by  the publishing criteria set out by sonys publishing and  q a depts that the items must fit within the guidelines set out by them

the community managers are basically a bridge between us and the other devs to communicate our feedback

Patchex, Yes these third party dev do pay a hefty price to bring out stuff on home, However home wasn’t about that in early days. I understand sony and third party dev have make money. However it became the main focas now on home were in early days and first 2 years it wasn’t as bad as it now. Yes there always been a weekly update with new goodies to buy however you could always say once a mouth there some free stuff as well. I think what home has become is a market place for third party dev to sell stuff and the whole sense of community has gone to make quick dollar. I remember when it was fun go to community theatre to watch some cool stuff, Even now PS talent has turn making few dollars out of the community were in past they would give away free item once and awhile. Even tester has gone from the community and for one I use like watching that. I wantend a new season.

Yes smaller dev came and go on home not because they choose just the larger devs like Ndream and lockwood would keep bring out more and more stuff and people tend to fellow what other people say cool. I use rock free home blue logo T-shirt for a while and people would call me noob or worse because I wore, They dint care I wore because I like that shade of blue instead I got bulled about it. So I don’t blame the little dev leave home because every week we get bunch more stuff to buy and sometimes I feel people forget the one reason home came about and that it is a community to meet people and hang out and not be judge what one wear. Some these dev need step back with all new stuff they bringing out and ask the community what they really want. The best free item I got last little while was from loot and that was doctor who tardis because that was something I would paid for but instead loot gave it away so out respect I brought the apartment and club house. So for me home need reach out to community once again and see what people want then bombing us with stuff to buy and we might were it till next update come around. As for home PS4 I really hope they start new and look about getting some of the big game company’s on home like ubi soft, bio wara and Capcom that would be awesome.

@ Spicey_Lollipop, We are getting more new games and free rewards now, than ever before. The games themselves have been updated and maintained better than in the 1st 2-3 years of Home. Overall, I think the Home infrastructure has improved significantly. Our minigames and public spaces have doubled. It is the Home userbase itself, that may have changed over the years. Home will be what we as users make it. Sony and the independent Developers seem to be actively trying to keep it alive and improve it. Without our support through both active logins to use Home and use public spaces; and through purchase based Developer support Home will not continue. It is us, the active users of Home, who are responsible for Home's future.  Home is like that old dilapidated building in the middle of a new development. If enough people care, it gets the historical landmark designation and is saved. If enough people care, anything can be accomplished. I will be here even if they turn off the lights, are you with me?

All the fun people who used Home left ages ago. I haven't had an intellectual or engaging conversation in Home since 2011.

Re: Who Really Runs Home - Who Has the Real Power?

ITCOB1, Yes home has infrastructure has improved significantly I do agree with on that. Yes there far more mini games Keeping them maintain I would disagree with, just take look at Bootleggers '29 being down for months and still no fix and look at Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove that has some big problems there and you hardly see anyone there because people know it’s not working and there RC Racer too. I spent money on Cutthroats because I really love that mini game and I know I not the only one and you think they would keep it maintain so new people to home can enjoy it, but they haven’t because there focus is bringing out new items to get people spend their dollars on. A lot of the new games if you really want to enjoy it and get some of better rewards you need to spend money. However some of the older games from past were fun and still is like bowling icebreaker, saucer pop and let’s not forget pool. A lot these games don’t give rewards but there still a lot fun. Icebreaker is one my fav games on home and rewards were nice too.

I think home focus has gone off community and all about making money from people who spend their free time on home then buying latest game dlc from store. I think the problem is people on home spend their time on it and when weekly update boot you off people in rush when come to be first to post on here to say it up. Then people make mad dash to be first get in x7 Club to buy latest preview item and go to public space to show thinking there best thing on home. I know not everyone like that, but I see it more and more recently and was listing to people talk on home and on here asking if home coming to PS4, I say it would be because it dose bring it bit money for the people who making this stuff. Yes your right home about community support home or it be wasteland of empty spots but a lot older spaces are empty and people get upset when they go but question why ant people hanging out on them. For 3 years maybe bit longer I want more assassin creed costumes on home from brotherhood and revelations and recently 3 and 4 and libation because I use run creed on home were we would dress up and hang out. We wasn’t very big about 18 of us and over years slowly got less not because drama etc because people lost joy of home. So in March 2013 we folded the creed because we went from 18 loyal people to 3.  So to me home is slowly dying off because not everyone wants new stuff they just like to be herd and maybe one these developers would listen and think “Hey someone need contact UBISoft because people wanting new items”.

I not trying offend anyone who enjoy home because home has had some amazing events over the years but for this girl home has lost it sparkle and she would hate to see home get left as PS3 thing and become something in history.

I used to have some as well.. but they all left Home. I haven't had an easy time finding people that I could say (with confidence) were above the mentality of a teenager. Most of the brainy people hung out at the Gamer's Lounge back when it existed. Smarter than the common user, maybe.. albeit more pretentious and unrelatable, but also more interesting because you could have intelligent debates without having to worry about immature name-calling, cursing or ridiculous reporting.

I had one girl on my list who had a very "alternative philosophy" on genetics, human origin and human evolution in relation to crime, human intellect, history and social environments. Me and her would have incredibly heated debates that would last from around 9PM to 1AM.. sometime even 5AM. We were one each other's Friend list even though all we ever did was argue and debate over things that were extremely esoteric to anyone around us. I had a feeling though that if I was to remove her from my list , I would probably never find another person on Home quite like her again. We are still added to each other , but she doesn't come on Home anymore. I thought I might be able to find another person like her around Home later on.. And I couldn't. I was never able to find someone else on Home who even came close to her intellectual output , temperment, rationality  and substance.

But basically when I said:

"All the fun people who used Home left ages ago. I haven't had an intellectual or engaging conversation in Home since 2011."

I was primarily referencing that incident, but it also stands as a general notion about the current state of Home from my perspective. All I see now are teenagers arguing with each other about petty slander and Female avatars complaining about anything that annoys them to anyone unlucky enough to have their avatars within a 5 feet radius of said "Female". I call it as I see it and I haven't run into anyone on Home who could provide an intellectual rational debate or even a conversation of basic intellectual merit in years. I'm sorry if this offends anyone who thinks otherwise, but this is how I perceive things and I've been on all over Home.. All over. Not just staying primarily in private spaces or low conversation-laden public spaces ( Casino, Edo, X7 ). I don't know if I have seen more of the current reality of Home than most people who participate in the forums, but I've seen enough to require a little bit more to accept a general opinion stating the contrary when I make an assertion.
