I've explored the Western Frontier space a bit, and there are still a couple of things I can't figure out.  Can anyone help with the following?:

Mining:  Has anyone gotten this feature to work?

The multiplayer panning game is broken.

Liar's Dice:  I actually won a round of this game without having any idea of what the rules were!  Seriously, though, the written instructions for this game do not seem to be complete.  They explain that you lose a dice if you erroneously make a "spot on" call or if someone else makes a correct "spot on" call.  Does it work the same way for erroneous or correct "bluff" calls?  Is there any particular penalty for someone correctly calling your bid a bluff?  Is there any advantage to having your bid be correct?  Also, what on earth do the rules mean when they state that 1s are used as wild values?

Read the rules.

If your opponent calls a bluff and the bid is true, the opponent loses a die.

If your opponent calls a bluff and the bid is false, the bidder loses a die.

If your bid is correct, it's safe from being called as a bluff, but you can still lose a die if an opponent calls spot on.

A wild value means it counts for any number.

Trading Post: I get that you need tokens to make a trade, but what are you trading in exchange for the item(s) you receive?  Are you trading "rewards" you have already earned in Western Frontier through other means in exchange for "rewards" that other people have earned?  Are the Western Frontier "rewards" earned for various tasks (e.g., reaching Tier 5 in Mining) different for each person or something?

You are trading for the items you want. After the trade completes, the item you wanted will unlock as a Home reward.

The rewards listed in the trading post can only be exchanged/unlocked through the trading post.

The trading post is a minigame. All of the Western Frontier games have unique rewards for leveling up and completing tasks.

Mining:  There is supposed to be some sort of feature where the prospectors at the entrance of the mining area place you on a mining "team" where you compete against the opposing team for bonus gold (there's also a reward if your team wins).  However, every time I enter the area, the prospectors tell me they can't place me on a team because there are less than five minutes in the current round.  They also state that I will automatically be placed on a team once the next round starts.  However, I've waited around a lot longer than five minutes, and the next round never seems to begin.  Has anyone gotten this feature to work?

Trading Post:  I still don't grasp the basics of how this is supposed to work.  I get that you need tokens to make a trade, but what are you trading in exchange for the item(s) you receive?  Are you trading "rewards" you have already earned in Western Frontier through other means in exchange for "rewards" that other people have earned?  Are the Western Frontier "rewards" earned for various tasks (e.g., reaching Tier 5 in Mining) different for each person or something?

Any clarification on the issues described above would be appreciated.

Mining: Right now the team feature is not working in the live version. We are working on a fix for that. It will not prevent you from getting any gold.

Liar's Dice:
Spot On Bet Example: If there are five 4's on the table, and the previous player bets that there are five 4's, then you call a spot on. Your statement is true, and everyone else loses a die. If there are five 4's on the table and the previous player bets that there are six 4's, then you call a spot on, your statement is false and you lose a die.

Bluff Call Example: If there are three 6's on the table, and the previous player bets that there are four or more 6's, and you all a bluff, your statement is true and the previous player loses a die. If there are three 6's on the table, and the previous player bets that there are three or less 6's and you call a bluff, your statement is false and you lose a die.

1's are wild and they count as any number. So whatever a player bids, the dice that show 1 count as the bid number.

Trading: This basically works like a gift machine. You choose what item you would like, and another player chooses an item that they would like. Then in the trade tab, you select which item you would like to buy for that user.

Example:
Player A wants a Hat that is 40 tokens

Player B wants a Shirt that is 80 tokens

Player A chooses to trade with player B

Player B accepts the trade

Player A then pays 80 tokens to give player B a shirt

Player B then pays 40 tokens to give player A a hat.

You do not need to have earned the reward to trade it

What about gifts?

Does Player A get credit for all the trade tokens if sending Player B a gift?

Thanks for the explanation it helped me out in what I have to do, right after this situation (mostly likely some glitches). That I'm currently having with the Trading Post will get solved and cleared up with the exchanging of gold into token. Like I mentioned before in this thread. :/

Re: Western Frontier Discussion Thread

I've discovered an issue with the Liar's Dice game.  Basically, the game will freeze for no reason.  You can quit, but you lose the gold you originally put into the game.  One of the times, the game started up again after a few people quit.  Now the game is frozen, and some other guy and I are standing off trying to get the other person to quit first.

I've encountered a similar issue at the poker tables in the casino, but it happens much more rarely there (maybe one time out of 50 games).  With liar's dice, the game has frozen twice out of the last three times I tried to play.  It always takes your gold before it freezes, though!

Re: Western Frontier Discussion Thread

Nov 23, 2013

I just visited this space for the second time and took a little more time to look around.  To be honest, I couldn't find much to get very excited over.

On the plus side, I didn't have any of the horrendous loading or freezing issues that others have encountered.  That said, it still took too long to move between the town, mining area and the saloon.  The spaces are very nicely detailed and were bustling with activity, as one would expect from a brand new space.

I attempted to play the Showdown game but the search for an opponent came up empty and I left after a minute or so.  Panning for gold was about the most dreadfully boring activity that I could imagine and I couldn't wait for it to end.  The mining was almost impossible to perform because the lag threw the timing of the buttons off too much.  11 gold pieces later (yeehaw), I'll never attempt either of those tasks again.

A quick glance at the rewards menu made it quite clear that I would never accumulate enough gold to earn any of them. As such, I passed on the rest of the games. I just seems pointless to spend time and/or money to earn rewards in Home these days.

I didn't see anything that really encouraged me to return to the Frontier and certainly have no intention to spend money there.  In all fairness, I rarely spend money on Home content these days so I'm probably not in the developers' target demographic anymore.  I guess I'll be waiting for the next, next best thing to come riding into Home.
