What next they start selling artificial limbs, colostomy bags, glass eyes. kidney transplants?  How about a new heart that you can buy and give through the gift machine to people who have weak hearts.  Oh yes maybe we can start being able to buy dentures.  Oh wait the generous crooked casino people already got that one covered.

I'm sorry but those are attachable objects to and parts of the human body. They are not the same as a wheelchair.

For the record we can already change our eye colors, get cybernetic eyes hands and the like as well as peglegs. Do we see any complaints from amputees about this? Has pirate lore ever been abolished because amputees might take offense to pegleg pirates? No.

Your issue with Home having wheelchairs is stemming from something other than this item. I have a brother in a wheelchair who plays Home on occasion and he welcomed the wheelchair idea, he actually purchased the entire bundle. Sorry, just because YOU don't like the wheelchairs doesn't mean others don't. They won't be removing the item because you don't like it. Grow up, accept other people opinions with RESPECT or leave Home. It's pretty ridiculous you *think* you're right and everyone else is wrong. You're coming off as a rude, self centered brat. I do have compassion for people with disabilities but you are just one sided - only your opinions matters it seems.

I dont see where this guy ever asked for your compassion nor does he seem to want it.  Can you take compassion to the bank and deposit it?  If so Ill be glad to take some of your compassion if not I dont see any value.

Don't pick and choose parts of a post that fit your agenda. I wasn't referring to compassion to him, I was referring to everyone with ANY KIND of disability. It's obvious the OP doesn't need it but his anger or whatever he's going through, is NOT because of wheelchairs on Home.

I'm going to advocate your way of thinking for a moment. By this logic, we should never be able to wear or use anything in Home that we don't have the right to wear or use in real life.

So that means we should never buy uniforms unless we had that profession. We should never buy peglegs unless we lost a leg. We should never get cyber-eyes from the terminater range unless we were partially blinded or need visual aids. Any opinion on this is irrelevent unless I'm a cop, saved 20 platoons in the 'Nam, lost my leg at sea or whatever else. Don't you see the sheer ridiculousness of this argument?

This isn't like a swastikka or anything symbolising hatred, it's a wheelchair!

These items shoul be removed period.   Are we that lazy, that our avatars have to sit in wheelchair now. How many disabled people are there on Home.

Its like, you go out shopping for the day and you see these dumb teenage punks, using the wheelchair until they are  approached by management for abusing the chairs. Give attitude, claim they need it but really don't.

Maybe home has become handicapped.   These wheelchairs very sentive area.  No place for home period. Entertainment or not.

My bother has been in a wheelchair before I was even born. Me, being the curious type, spent a day in a wheelchair to experience what he went through. It was hard, unique and different I must say. However, I did learn a lot from that day. So no, it wasn't second hand experience as you would like to claim.

being permanently disabled and in a chair for the rest of my life let me assure you it is not fun .. what idiot thought that turning a disability into an item to ride around in for amusement was a good thing? plz sony just out of simple common sense dont think about revenue and take the chairs out of store. to some ppl it is not only offensive but a needless reminder of something that we try hard to deal with

I cannot imagine it is.

When I was reading jersquall's Thread (Thread of the Week BT Dubbs), I did have a torn thought about the application of a wheelchair in HOME.

I commend Jers' ability to see beyond certain implications of introducing a wheelchair, and use it as a symbol for celebrating his ability to find new avenues for creativity and life above a disability.  Using and contributing to HOME was a release and occupation that helped Jers in his life. He expressed how everything had come full circle for him in a sense. (My interpretation of it BTW).

That torn feeling came from the thought of; "why?".  Why have a wheelchair in HOME?  Just the same, Jers found to see it as something proactive, rather than negative.  I even found myself watching the video, seeing Jers enjoying the environment, while meeting with obstacles, much like someone in real life would.  Accessibility being one of the major obstacles to someone needing a wheelchair.  I am not telling you anything here.... you know first hand.

Although one cannot truly understand what it is like to be "confined", if they are not, anyone who chooses to use the wheelchair in HOME will somewhat understand the limitations it brings.  Perhaps; through this virtual experience those who are NOT disabled can better understand what those who, ARE, deal with on a daily basis.

It is certainly not fool proof, and not everyone would get it, but I believe I do.  I could make up a story and tell you I have a friend in a wheelchair, or even go so far as to lie and say I am in one, but I won't.  I would never do that.  I, without being disabled am able to understand at least the perspective though.  We are not all so close minded as we cannot understand without experiencing.

As far as SONY and HOME goes, I am afraid the method of the Post is misdirected.  Sony Support would be better suited for a direct grievance.  Here; we share thoughts and ideas.  Sony can see what we say, but not in a direct sense.

Perhaps the Thread might have been better served as a question or synopsis on your feelings about it.  I am not here to tell you "how" to Post.  I only wish to help with a friendly critique.

It is most unfortunate you are disabled (oh, and don't worry, I pity no one.  not my style).  I wish that on no one though.  The differences between how you and Jersqaull look at your situations, is as you say, personal.  It is interesting to see the differing views on this topic.

Regarding the "push back" on the topic; I believe some people were merely expressing their own opinions on the matter.  You see?  That is what this is.  It is the PlayStation Community Forum.  Ideas, opinions and all ranges of thoughts are shared here.  Everyone shares Posts and create Threads with the understanding, NOT EVERYONE, is going to agree with them.

If a topic is so sensitive to anyone, they do not wish to hear ANY countering views, then it is perhaps a better choice NOT to Post.  I have made that decision many times, and forewent that decision a few times.  I can tell you from personal experience, I have been more the happier for Threads and Posts I have NOT made, knowing what I may get in return might anger or annoy me.

So here lays the choice.... Put an idea out there for the World to see.  Understand not everyone will agree with you.  Take the positive (to your opinions), and either leave the "negative", or take those with a grain of salt.  That is all I am saying.

Moble

1) So disabled people are LAZY now if they use wheelchairs? How do you define who is/isn't lazy or who should have what? This is a virtual world Sim not a God Sim.

2) No place for wheelchairs in Home? Isn't that discriminating against wheelchair users that might want them?

3) You think they're here purely for entertainment? Way to undermine those needing/wanting wheelchairs.

4) Other virtual worlds have wheelchairs and I've seen little complaints about them in there.

Re: WHEELCHAIRS!!!!!!!!

May 31, 2013

Last night I got the inside scoop on the Wheelchairs and it was not a master plan by Sony but by one long time Home dev who did it on his own. Danger Dad had a good point in stating no one person can have something as innocent as a chair removed. If they are suggested, Which this has been and created which this was then everyone has a choice to buy or not. Bottom line here.

My opinion has been stated beyond beyond and I will bow out of the conversation unless needed as this is not a debate anymore and the tone of respect has faultered.
