Communication has never been very good and probably never will be when it hasn't improved in all these years, I'll start to worry about Home closing up when the weekly updates start to have less and less content, at the moment there is a lot of content being released every month so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

 

It is frustrating to not know what is going to happen in the long(ish) term with Home but for now all we can do is enjoy it and support it and this way it'll probably help in a good way.

Im losing faith.. I no longer wanna support something they dont even support...  I'll keep my money..

Job Description

Sony Computer Entertainment is looking for a Manager of DevOps to join their Network Services and Apps group within the US R&D Organization. The Manager, DevOps candidate will work to extend and operate a cloud platform for consumer and business facing services for Sony devices including the PlayStation® family of platforms.

 

The candidate is a hands-on manager able to contribute both technical direction and direct implementation of a functioning cloud environment with a small, agile team. This individual will work with multiple local and remote Development, SQA and Operations teams in the deployment and operation of services. The position requires a background in internet scale web application and service operations, experience in building out software and hardware deployments and hosting services in a cloud environment. Communication and support outside of normal business hours may be required. The candidate must be a strong verbal and written communicator and be capable of moving forward technical issues to resolution in a fast paced, startup-like environment. The candidate must be self-driven and able to establish processes and best practices from scratch as well as integrating with existing agile methodologies.

 

Principle Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Manage U.S. side development and operation of a cloud platform for Sony online services. Hosted services will work with a variety of Sony devices including PLAYSTATION® platforms.

  • Work with upper management and product stakeholders on architecture specifications based on business and service requirements.

  • Work with the lead architect in design and implementation of cloud platform functionality to support current and future Sony services.

  • Work with local and remote development and SQA teams to support the delivery, deployment and operation of services. Provide automation tools and monitoring to support a continuous delivery workflow.

  • Work with local and remote NOC and operations team on 24/7 ongoing operation of the cloud platform environment. Address escalated issues as necessary.

  • Oversee and contribute to the documentation of the design and implementation of network, server and other systems (e.g. runbooks).
Desired Skills & ExperienceRequired Experience / Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

  • At least six years’ experience as a software developer for online services, including two years’ experience as a manager or lead of a small (3-6 people) team.

  • Data center experience including build out, software and hardware deployments. Experience in 24/7 operations of services. Experience in testing infrastructure.

  • Management & Operations experience of network, server, and storage systems. Example systems include Cisco Nexus or Palo Alto Networks, NetApp or EMC storage solutions, F5 load balancers, and blade and individual compute servers.

  • Service oriented qualifications including 24/7 NOC interaction and troubleshooting response experience.

  • Cloud only hosting experience such as Amazon Web Services, Rackspace, etc.

  • Automation of SCM, build and deployment activities using tools such as Puppet, Chef, CFEngine and Zookeeper.

  • Implementation of monitoring of services using tools such as Nagios, Zenoss, Cacti, etc. • Successful deployment and operation of services in cloud environments (e.g. Amazon or Rackspace). Experience helping scale services to handle large number of users and resulting traffic.

  • Be able to communicate clearly technical ideas and issues.

  • Experience in participating in a formal to light weight operations process including Scrum or Kanban.
Preferred Experience / Education:
  • At least eight years’ experience in online service engineering including four years’ experience as a manager of a small (3-6 people) team.

  • Experience with deploying and operating OpenStack-based cloud environments.

  • Physical infrastructure deployment and operations experience.
