Setting Up a Personal Community Page

39 replies 55 views Edited Jan 1, 2011

Hi everyone,

I'm going to link you all to this post in the General Discussions area where there is a tutorial on setting up a Personal Community page. Personally I'm pretty impressed with being able to do this. Have a look see – it might just be worth your time and effort.

Here is an image of my page which I just set up this morning where I included Playstation Home – using the Recent Discussions – as a Widget for the center of my personal page. I've included a pic and a video. I'm going to be exploring the possibilities a bit more as well. Looks complicated and it might be for some but the html code he has provided proves links to most discussion areas in a way they did over at the Lithium Forum.

My page is here. Click on the link to get an expanded view.

I'm curious. I posted this discussion almost two hours ago and it has yet to show up in discussions. What is with that?

Edit: It has now shown up after I responded to my own thread. Awfully strange. And in my view the ask a question feature should not be the default when posting. I'm going to have to get used to deselecting that when not asking a question.

Joanna, I'm curious about that photo of your avatar at the top center. How did you do that?

I just now completed installing WoolySpud's tutorial and I am very impressed that you have a video included (which he mentioned he did) and the image in your layout. Mine looks pretty lack luster and is nowhere near functional yet, but ima keep tryin'.      Yours have relevant threads listed, mine has threads like "BLACK OPS SERVERS DOWN????" and "O well"???? None about Home.    I will get it in time though.

Ah, clever, you're obviously accustomed to experimenting with HTML and social network profiles.

What I did was to use the "other" category and then the "html" widget. With that widget I renamed it Joanna Dark and then pasted html code I got directly from my flickr page. I played with the html sizing until I got it right.  I placed the widget in the center area of my Community Page. I now have 3 videos I like there as opposed to one. This is pretty cool but it certainly doesn't correct or forgive all the forum mechanics which should be working at the moment and aren't.

New threads for example should show up right after posting them. That is the second time it's happened to me.

HTML Code for the pic by the way

I've set up a Community page as per your instructions. Is there a way to have a specific forum in the area where the current community activity is or in addition to it? This  is pretty neat when you get used to it. I would love to be able to have  the Home General Forums accessible from this page directly given it's  where I spend most of my time when on Playstation.com.

And again I wish we could go in an edit older thread posts. That is bothering me very much at the moment.

Under  the People category there is a widget called Recent Activity that does  what the community activity widget does but lets you configure where it  pulls the content from.

Joanna, one more question please? How did you expand your screenshot like that? Mine is all scrunched up!

I don't know that I'd call it fun. But it sure beats the default page and forum tool that we're given.
