Home Tycoon is experiencing some server issues in the Train Station today. Please visit your city from the Hub for a much smoother experience while we look into this.

Not digging this so far. I'm short on money to build that third house (READ: The second mission, of all things!), and I'm REALLY not liking the whole "Wait 30 minutes to do ANYTHING to even TRY to fix it" thing. At all.

EDIT: "Wait 5 minutes for the next worker." it says. I've been sitting here for 15 and I haven't seen a single one. Without that, I can't collect Town Hall's revenue. Without THAT, I can't build a 3rd house. And without THAT, I can't compete this mission. *votes Very Dissatisfied.*

If I didn't know better, I'd say this game was a parody of the microtransaction "free to play, pay to win" gaming genre. The whole "pay to unlock such and such" is too up front in your face from the start. I started to swear I was playing the DLC Quest indie game again.

Certainly, the developers of this game need to get a return on their investment - they've pushed Home's limited memory resources to their maximum. But to be really successful the free to play genre needs to be more subtle about the whole exchanging real money for advantage thing. It needs to gradually subvert the player into spending money over time, as though the game and player are partners working together toward a common objective. Not put artificial walls around the player, dangle giant microtransaction carrots in front of their face from the get go and all but taunt the player with them. That model can work if the base game itself is compelling enough (I'd say No Man's Land was, despite its many critics). But really, besides the ability to run around our cities on foot and see them from a pedestrian's perspective (which is quite neat), there's not much in Home Tycoon that isn't done better by Simcity. I found the firetruck controlled like a floaty sports car, and there's no option to "test drive" another car without spending real money.

This game feels a bit like a casino trying to cheat me out of money constantly. At least Digital Leisure is up front about its objectives. The expenditure per hour of entertainment may not be any higher than other Home games, but the way its presented just leaves a bad taste. Microtransactions carried too far can be a GlobalSyn, indeed.

Okay. I literally left it sitting there for OVER TEN MINUTES waiting for a worker to spawn. Did literally NOTHING. Put the controller down, went to youtube, came back 10 minutes later. No worker.

I physically CAN NOT complete the second mission because of this. And you know, I REALLY wanted to like this, too. But no, game breaking on the SECOND MISSION of the game?

Re: [POLL Feedback Thread] Home Tycoon

...Home Tycoon, So much fun!  Hours pass and I don't even realize it. Could be a bad thing but I am enjoy'in it very much. I do however have some issues with the 'play' of it all.

Issue 1: For instance there is no way to 'move' a building/road that u have already placed without having to re-purchase again. That's just wrong. You've bought it, so why if u chose to relocate it do u have to re-purchase it? There should be a "move" function allowing owners to click on said structure/roadway and relocate to another area of their city if they choose to do so. I have made many placement errors and it has cost me a lot of time and money just in relocation. Have had several friends stop playing Tycoon because of this issue which is a shame because it is very enjoyable.

Issue 2: Although I am sure Novus Prime is an excellent play for many, it does not hold my interest. I don't see the need to push other gameplay from within another. If I wanted to play Novus Prime I would just choose to go and do so. But including it in with another game structure simply to keep people playing an older game? idk just seems wrong. Players want to complete all the tasks of games they choose to play either for the rewards or simply to accomplish the tasks at hand of that game. Having to go from one game to another just to do that just don't seem rite.

Issue 3: And this is the biggest one of all 'coin purchase' . At $49.99 for a add on pkg. (which I did purchase) by the way. Although it may seem ridiculous is the best way to go. Returning over and over again purchasing smaller pkgs again and again will just cost u more in the long run. But what about those kids who do want to play but simply cannot afford it. There should be a way to "earn" coins that can be saved to make purchases from within the game. Be it for workers, or add-on missions, buildings or whatever they choose. More people will play if there is an opportunity for them to gain just as those who chose to gain because they had the convenience of purchase. When the only way u can perform as others is to have real life currency to make purchases, u r going to lose users. I know of several gamers who said if there was a way to earn coins and save them up to eventually make a purchase, they would stay and play. Having said that and the ability not to do so, they find no interest in staying and spending hours playing. They can only go so far in the game, they lack the funding to continue further. That's sad, everyone should have the same opportunity to participate, if it takes some longer because they can only 'earn' 1 gold coin a day they would still play. Not given that opportunity at all is costing u a lot of new potential mayors. I say let them 'earn' coins for their dedication and loyalty to your game.

Well that's the end of my concerns and issues with Home Tycoon. I luv it. Just feel bad for some of my gaming friends who want to play but cannot due to above said issues. Oh and if there's a suggestion box for 'more to come features' lol ..Id like to suggest a 2 seater vehicle lol ..Not asking to much ikr ..Being able to ride with a friend or pick some1 up who comes to visit and drive them around your town would be really neat. ...lol

You guys have done an excellent job on this project. Hellfire Games is Genius!

Re: [POLL Feedback Thread] Home Tycoon

Oct 8, 2012

I really like the idea of Home Tycoon, and I've enjoyed it alot, although I do feel it is a little too expensive. On the first few days I was reluctant to spend anything and invest in the idea due to so many things costing money, and I could see it adding up quite a lot. The things that put me off were the workers, and having to wait so long for them to regenerate and I didnt feel it was right to have to pay for that privilege so I held off spending money.

However, since you reduced the waiting time, and have also said that the workers will regenerate when we're not in Home, you did enough to entice me to buying one of the lower end packages. From my little investment I have enjoyed it a lot, and its really good seeing my town slowly building up (its based on New York, I have my Central Park and now building up my Upper East Side with luxury highrisers).

Being able to visit other towns is good fun, and its nice to see everyones own style (purchase of a car is a must, but worth the coins as its good fun driving around although its easy to crash alot).

The biggest negative to me, is that its still an expensive project, with not much given away, and due to the prices I'm reluctant to invest much more. As you did by reducing/removing the waiting time for workers enticed me to purchasing some coins, I really think you need to give a little more back to encourage myself and others like me to putting money into Home Tycoon.

Digital Leisure did this with the Casino by giving everyone 100 free chips a week, then they gave a bonus 100 chips with their ambassador program, then they gave us all a daily free spin on one of the slots, and now they allow us a free daily poker table match. They also give away things on a regular basis to encourage people to come to the Casino (Olympic Flags, Canadas Thansgiving etc). I really think you would benefit by following their example.

Although I've mentioned the expense, the game is good fun and I do like it. There are a couple of things that I would like added that would improve it.

o     As mentioned by others, some way to earn or be given some coins. If you give a little, you may get a bit more in return.

o     I love visiting other towns, but I have some EU friends and I would like to visit their towns, If possible, could you allow us to visit our friends towns in other regions.

o     If you purchase a building, I think it should be unlocked for you to use again. By all means charge 'ingame dollars', but its not right making players have to rebuy the building. It gives a bad impression after buying it to find that out, and therefore reluctant to buy others.

o     Environment should be free to change. Being charged gold coins to make it day or night comes off as just being greedy

You could be onto a very successful venture, you just need to make a few adjustments to make it more accessible to everyone. Try not to be so money orientated, and it may help you get more mayors Smiley Wink

I sent my friend 2 packs of 75 coins; they got two pms telling them that they recieved coins and all they had to do to get them was go to Home Tycoon. When they got to Home Tycoon, NO COINS.   I told them maybe it is just a little slow sending them, but it has been an hour now and Psycocatz still hasn't gotten them?????
