It means alot to me that we settled our differences, I apologies again for being thick headed to what you was saying, I tried my best to be passive.
You get yourself some good snooze, Im gonna stay up and learn how to spell words lol.
Ha haaaaaaaaaaaa...bro I dont take much personal here....its a love hate thing. Sometimes we argue till the wheels fall off and the next day we're flickin boogers at each other.
LOLLLLLLLLLL...Welcome to the forums
After reading all posts, 'evidence', examples and donuts?!?! here's my take on this whole thing.
Similar to Dj_Tenchu, I as a person am convinced that the Lockwood mech samurai avatar was/is not a 100% original creation of the talented artists at LKWD. I personally feel the 'evidence' supports that there is enough similarity in LKWD's mech VS Zeo-X's, to warrant concern from Zeo-X and I totally understand what supports Grim_Dude's initial reaction.
However... I also agree with KatCall77 in that there are some differences in LKWD's design to differentiate it from being an exact carbon copy.
For instance the double swords in Zeo-X's concept are stacked Vertically I right on top each other.
While LKWD's are stacked horizontal and diagonally __ in relation to each other. Now whether or not these and similar changes constitute enough of a difference to ward off a claim of copyright or whatever? I honestly don't know. I'm not a specialist lawyer in that (or any other ) field so I cannot state with any amount of certainty that the changes are not enough of a difference.
In response to the whole Transformers, Prototype, & Donuts comments made by ILLUMIN-X. I understand your point(s) but I'm sorry, those transformers aren't anywhere nearly close enough in likeness to be considered similar enough to Zeo-X's concept that "the company that manufactures Transformers could say the same thing about this art work". They have similar style, in that they are robots/samurai themed but not likeness. Here's a picture to better illustrate what I am referring to in likeness.
Who is that in this illustration? If you said either Jessica Rabbit or Angelina Jolie, You'd be right either way. The character, let's call her Angelina J. Rabbit, bears a striking similarity to the likeness of both her root characters. The fact that you can tell exactly who the two root characters are, is a testament to just how well the artist recreated the traits of each of them. Now with that in mind can Angelina Jolie successfully claim copyright on whatever percentage of her likeness that is part of this illustration? My guess is probably not. The same goes for Jessica Rabbit's copyright holders as well but, there is undeniably enough of a percentage in this illustration that (granted you are familiar with both characters) you can identify the root characters by likeness alone.
So based on all information provided thus far, It is my personal opinion that similar to the example's argument, LKWD's Samurai Mech shows a considerable amount of recreated likeness to Zeo-X's concept. Enough so to lend validity to any claims he might have against them. Whether or not the balance/percentage of that likeness is enough to go either way legally, I can't say.
My last two cents are, As a person who owns the mech it gives me enough pause to consider looking up future creations from LKWD to make sure that (as far as I can tell) the creations are original, or give credit to their inspiration. I always found it weird that the mech had no helmet and I feel as though I know why. An attempt to differentiate itself enough to prevent a copyright claim. I for one would like a version where the face of a persons avatar is 'meched' or 'metalized' (similar to the androids silver face) and imbedded into the Samurai Mech suit. That would be awesome!
Up with HOPE, Down with the ROPE!
I'm not really sure on this, because they both have the same theme, "Samurai & Robot". A real standard samurai armor didn't have that many variation differences (they may have decorated differently, but the armor design were pretty much the same), so there could be a chance that those charateristics shows the similarities between those two.
To me, this is the same as something like saying "draw a black witch" and both came out similar.
