Re: Is 'Home' Sony's online gaming service?

What do people mean when they say "will this game support Home" should it be " will this game support PSN" as the PSN is the online gaming service not Home.

But shouldnt 'Home' be placed under Game, Network or Friends catagory instead of having its own catagory because all Home is is an online application service.

Or is it just an online application where Friends meet and socialise.

Are we still going to see Sony integrate XMB into games, like being able to bring up the Friends list, sending / recieving Messages, sending Game & Chat Invitations all while in-game and now viewing Friends and our own Trophies while in-game.

Basicly are we going to see an intergrated online gaming service?

The XMB will still be there.  The XMB will have the added option "home", just like it has for example "music"

No home is what Sony is envisioning as the future of their consoles so it will remain on the XMB  - It eventually will encompass all activities that the Playstation is slated to be able to do. It will eventually have more features then the XMB outside of basic matchmaking and communications etc (though during the beta period it will be reverse for quite some time)
But many things like integrated friends lists, communication etc should be enhanced on the XMB by the features that will be added by firmware updates and the technology from Home.
The trophy room  and trophies currently look to remain purely a Home feature as they require the 3D environment to display them (because they are using 3D art assets from the games)

Is it not more like a portal to other PS3 users and a visual representation of the XMB?

Phil said that regardless if the game developer supports home, you will be able to join the game over home and set up games.
