So basically, as an MVP and a former HCV, your rebuttal to the fact that home has so many flaws, that at least half of the programs investors that were here before all the problems started should just quit and walk away. Instead of pointing out the things that need to be fixed.
I'm not saying to not point out things that need to be fixed. That is what the Home Support boards are for. What I'm saying is don't tell me what all is wrong with Home because I know what problems are on Home. If there are problems then report them in a constructive manner. To preach to all the rest of us about all the problems on Home like we are clueless is totally uncalled for. Anyone who has been on Home for any significant amount of time KNOWS about the problems on Home and if they still use it, it is because THEY choose to use in spite of the flaws. And these are my views as an avid Home user. MVP or not, my opinions would be the same regardless. It's YOUR money. If you feel you are supporting a lost cause by purchasing stuff on Home, then quit. Delete Home from your PS3. OR just stop spending and enjoy what free stuff Home has to offer until IF and when they decide to pull the plug. Simple as that.
I know there are people who have purchased items and then had problems with them. They have a right to complain and insist that the item gets fixed or their money refunded. And if those people continue to have problems and they're not resolved...well, not sure what the next course of action would be. Personally, I don't buy as much stuff on Home like I did 4 years ago. When I first came on Home I thought: "I'm not paying real money for virtual stuff". But less than 2 weeks later, I was. I bought stuff then that, looking back now, I think: "What was I thinking!" *face palm* So now I'm more selective in what I buy. I'm not worried about having the newest items all the time. I used to collect just about every reward there was to get 4 years ago. But now I'm even selective as to what rewards I want. Even if the rewards aren't all that great sometimes playing the game to get them is too fun to pass up or perhaps I'm curious and try it out.
And I am not a "cheerleader" with "tunnel vision" when it comes to Home. I DO care about if people waste their mony on something that doesn't work so that's why I inform anyone who asks me about something that I know doesn't work right or that I personally think is too expensive to play, I let them know. I inform people to the best of my knowledge what I know about a certain item, space or game and then tell them it's their decision as to if they want to pay the money or not. I have never bought any Casino chips or acorns nor do I intend to. But other people buy them but I don't condemn them for it. To each their own. Same with the gold at Digital Leisure's Western Frontier. I have no plans to purchase gold with real money. I intend to earn what rewards I can by actually panning for gold no matter how long it takes.
I'm not here to insult anyone and if I have it was not my intent and apologies if you felt that way. But I like what I like and I'm not going to apologize for that. I'm hoping Home will continue on for as long as possible, hopefully has far to being on the PS4. I just don't like people preaching to me that I should give up on Home because of all the faults there are with it. I know of problems with Home as I'm sure the rest of us do too and quite a few of us still choose to use Home.
This is all I'm going to say on this matter and if anyone wants to discuss it further feel free to PM me or if you see me on Home perhaps we could do a friendly debate on this. I just wanted to voice my opinions on this subject and I have done that. You all have a good day and I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving. Take care.
Happy holidays, for what its worth.
My god. I've seen a similar thing happen for a MMO that was last updated 2 years ago. The players went as far as starting a Occupy movement, which later was shut down. Any attempts to get the devs to update the game and such get shut down.
Its all negative, but why is the game still online despite the lack of updates/players? Because all they want to do is to play the game, they don't care for updates.
I've been on Home for 2 years and didn't care about things not being updated. But the game I came from and still play after 5 years, I've seen it from being popular to going downhil to what it is today.
Sony has not said or confirmed anything about Home's future or if'll be on PS4.
For once, Im gonna play Devil's advocate and preach a different sermon.
I love Home as much as most people here do...but let's face it, Home still needs a LOT of work done to it and it is NEVER gonna get the attention it needs, to function properlly. 5 years into Home's lifecycle...and we are STILL dealing with severe lag, disconnect errors, slow loading, choppy and distorted mic conversations, avatars that wont load or take longer than they should to load, slow loading wardrobe and inventories, purchases that take forever to validate, spaces that constantly need to be downloaded, an abundance of glitches and bugs still exist....and moderation is never around and nowhere to be found when you NEED them. Trolls run rampant, while we are told to report and move along...when it could take days or weeks for anything to get done about the offense that was reported. There is no "on the fly" instant moderation, for when you need something done right that moment.
We have these weekly maintenance periods for Home (and yes, these maintenance periods are exclusively FOR HOME, not PSN) and not a single one seems to address ANY of the above issues, mentioned....sometimes making them worse, if anything. I have seen full fledged MMO's like World Of Warcraft that get better maintenance than Home. Second Life gets better maintenance than Home...heII, even GTA Online gets better maintenace than Home. Took Rockstar a few weeks but they have managed to patch out most if not all of the exploits that people were using to basically cheat the system. 5 years...and the Home staff, Joystick_Warrior included cant even get a few glitches patched. The ones still left standing. You know what I mean. Home seems to have the poorest tech support I have EVER seen, in the history of software apps. It's like they dont even care, anymore. Seems to me, like all these maintenance periods do...is add more content for microtransactions. "BUY OUR STUFF, BUY OUR STUFF." This wednesday, I'll guarantee you, there will be more stuff to buy....and STILL have the same issues and problems plaguing Home. Not a single thing will have been FIXED. And I can say this with conviction, because I have sat thru every single maintenance period, over the last 5 years...and havent seen anything fixed, without adding more problems in place of anything that may get resolved. I've seen redesigns to spaces, redesigns to the UI, redesigns to the navigator, and a few features added along the way...but that's about it.
Sony has a very small team of people still working on Home, but they arent allowed to hire more people, arent allowed to expand on tech support, arent given the budgets they need to do the things that needs to be done. Theyre basically told to "make use of what you got" because they cant get anymore funding or resources from Sony. Because Sony doesnt really care about Home anymore. They are too busy with the PS4, marketing and other things to care about Home. It's been like this for a while now, and it isnt ever going to change. Aside from what little profit the devs and Sony makes from their weekly microtransactions, Home is dead in the water. Doesnt matter how many new spaces they add each week, how many new events they hold, holiday activities or new stuff to buy...Home is a dead horse.
So I think Sony should just shut it down and be done with it. Issue a firmware update that removes the Home app from the XMB, just like they did with "Life With PlayStation"....and move on. You get gangrene in your leg, do you continue to walk around with it and use it if you cant get it treated? No...you amputate it and cut it off. And thats what Home has become; a dying, infected limb that needs to be severed.
Here's some homework for all of you: Go outside of these forums, to other PS3 game realted websites and forums...and ask people what THEY think of Home and how they feel about it. Try Kotaku, N4G, IGN, PSU or...you can even try Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. You will find that with everyone you ask, every forum board you find and every comment you read from each user...."MOST" people outside these forums...dont even care about Home and gave up on it a LONG time ago. There are some who would rather see it removed from the PS3 and never ported to the PS4, as they see it as a waste of resources and developers talent. We seem like such a huge army here, on the actual PlayStation Home forums...but this is where our army ends. Compared to the vast majority of people out there...we are a minority...a small percentage of people, still fighting for a service...that Sony itself has given up on and abandoned.
Maybe it's time they took this horse out to pasture...and shot it square in the head. Im just sayin....what do all of YOU think?
I think you are both right and wrong on many of the topics you talked about. You talked about "We have these weekly maintenance periods for Home" That is 100% ture. But did you know that the problems that you listed can not be fixed in a weekly maintenance? The only way you can fix most if not all the problems you listed would be by a "core update". Why hasn't Sony given us a core update that fixes many of the bugs and glitches that we have in Home? No idea other then Home not a priority
Does Home need to die over all this? No... From day one of the Open Beta Home has been under bad management. What would happen if we had management that wanted to bring back the original idea of Home? Everything would be a 100% better. If Sony got Home out of the OB last year? We could have had a Home2 on the PS4. We might even have more people want to advertise and or invest into Home.

They have said it will not be on playstation 4. Home is exclusive to the playstation 3.
Stated officially here
That is two-year-old marketing content for the promotion of The Hub. It does not say anything about the future of Home on the PS4, only that Home was a PS3 exclusive at the time the conent was written, which was true at the time.
Nothing in the phrase "exclusively on the PS3" written two years ago says anything about future development plans. The PS4 was still on the drawing board at that point. Does "exclusively on the PS3" mean that we'll never see an Uncharted or Killzone game on the PS4? No. Same rule applies here.
Try reading more than just the title header and come back with something.....relevant. I dare anyone here, to offer a counter point or valid argument to still keep Home around. Aside from the typical "I still like and use it"....that wont fly here. Think...really THINK and tell me WHY Home should still be a relevant service on PSN and PS3.
We have fun playing Home.
We have friends playing Home and make new friends playing Home.
We play and *buy* games that we normally may have never looked at because of *our friends in Playstation Home*.
We support Indie developers because of Home. These small developers in Playstation Home are working in a *very difficult* and limited environment, that is Playstation Home. But they are making advances with what they have to work with and showing us those advances. Maybe that's really what Sony Corporate needs to see.
Buy, buy, buy. That's right, you buy when you can afford it and what you like in Playstation Home. People need to get paid, n unfortunately Sony will never divulge how much excess profit they need to make some *serious software changes*, like Playstation Home being able to identify how much RAM your system has, *and* then changing itself so it can run on another platform. How much extra money that isn't used for something else by Sony is it gonna take? I have no clue. But I do not doubt that they do make some pure profit off of it.
Ending Playstation Home, the most unique service *ever* on a console would be an insult to not only all of us who enjoy it, but the developers and even Sony themselves. Those who don't use Home, likely don't use any 3D virtual chat rooms that have games, they would say "We told you so". Microsoft would laugh at Sony, they would love it I'm sure. The developers, who must have an amazing staff, each n every major developer in Playstation Home, well I think their future is very bright. They could possibly do anything, considering the tuna can they have been stuck in here. But it was Sony that gave them this opportunity, n regardless of the failures or bugs, what they have made work in with such limitations in *software* n *hardware* available for Playstation Home has ever increased many home players enjoyment of the service. In other environments they could possibly make worlds that would put all other 3D chat worlds to shame, including Second Life.
Sony has some great talent in the developers in Playstation Home, and some great talent in the gamers *and* non-gamers in Playstation Home. What they are thinking behind closed doors is anyone's guess, but things do change. n things can change.
Home is profitable. That's a money reason. Everything else aside. How much? I don't know.
nDreams stated they make 6 figures annually from Home, n you know Sony got a cut from that. It may not be a massive profit for a company such as Sony, but it should be enough to move Playstation Home forward. (somebody provide the link for that please, it is here somewhere)
n should they use more profit from it to fix it? Is their enough profit that they are willing to part with, to fix Playstation Home or move it forward to another console, to make potentially even more in the long run? Well, they won't tell us that, will they?
I'm sure there's many other reasons that Playstation Home could and *should* advance beyond the PS3 n what it is now.
But the main reasons are solid:
It makes money.
What they are doing with that money, I don't know, but I'm sure the wise thing will be to invest it back into the Playstation Home project, or another project (similar to Home with a different name, n no BigFest isn't it, don't make me laugh) where they will get the same type of spenders buying digital content on their network. That's why I still believe Playstation Home will have a future. or if Sony does kill it, they will replace it with something similar, in order to bring that flow of money back in. There are some people who spend more in Playstation Home than on any other service, it adds up a lot faster than many games too, it puts a lot more towards PSN, the network too. I am one of those people, n i have no issues with being so. I enjoy it n will until it's last day.
Offer some ideas, instead of just giving up.
It isn't about who is wrong or right at this point, not for those who actually care about Playstation Home having a future.
It's about what works, and what could work.
