EXTRA LIFE 2013:

Extra Life is an annual video game marathon that raises money to help kids at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Originally designed as a 24-hour marathon of gaming, Extra Life has evolved to mean different things to different people (though most of our participants still attempt the marathon).

To participate you need only sign up (free) and gather the support of your friends and family through tax-deductible donations to your local CMN Hospital.  Then on Saturday, November 2nd (or any day that works for you!) play any game(s) you want on any platform(s) that you want with anyone you want for as long as you want.

The proceeds from Extra Life stay where they're raised to support children's hospitals.

Since 2008, our incredible players have raised more than 4 million dollars, and this year, on November 2nd, 2013 we believe they will outdo themselves yet again.

With your help we can set a new record and save so many more kids!

WHEN:  November 2, 2013 @ 8am (Or pick a date that works for you!)

WHERE:  Anywhere you like to game (Most people play from home!)

GAME/PLATFORM:  Play any games on any platforms you want including mobile devices or board games!

HOW IT WORKS:  Simply ask your friends and family to sponsor your efforts.  They can make a monthly pledge or a one-time gift.  Then, have a seat and play games on Saturday, November 2nd.

WHO IT BENEFITS:  Gamers select the children's hospital they want to play for during registration.  In the US and Canada there are more than 170 CMN Hospitals to choose from.  Players outside of North America can choose hospitals and causes that work specifically in their area of the world.

As always you can register for Extra Life absolutely free, however we'd like you to consider the $15 Platinum option, which makes you eligible to receive lot's of goodies and prizes throughout the campaign, including the official 2013 Extra Life T-shirt when you hit $200 in funds raised.

If you're not sure you can always register free now, and upgrade later.

Thank you for stopping by, and thanks for a taking a few minutes to join our fight to save kids' lives.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals supports healthy and safe gaming for kids. If you have questions or concerns about your child’s gaming, please visit www.cmch.tv/ for resources on healthy gaming habits for kids.

 for those wandering why now...

This Year I started this thread early as some of us want to get a head start on this, Last Year alone Extra Life participants helped raised  $1.91 million to save kids. Lets see how much we will do in 2013

Great Job on this Thread David, it looks great, and well informative... You and Stephie are awesome for starting earlier this Year... Kudo's...

Something I din't realize till I met with my local Extra-Life guild, is that its not just video games (I know that's what most of us will be doing lol) Yet any game counts for this Event... So in other words... If you get fatigued after 10 hours or so of video gaming... Feel free to Step out side with your family for a game of Kick ball or Soft Ball... sit in your pool and Polo, or Basketball in your driveway with your Mom or Dad, or if its really late in your Extra-Life run and your Eyes hurt and you feel like the TV is too much, (maybe its time for a sleep break lol) You can sit down and Play Candy Land or Scrabble or even Yatzee with your family or freinds supporting you for Extra-Life... (also D&D, Magic the gathering, and Munchkin count too...)

Any and ALL game count for Extra-life... For some reason I thought it was just video games, yet I stand corrected.

I think this sounds like a really nice idea and, of course, I'd like to help the children. However, I think I'm going to have a hard time trying to convince my family, friends, or co-workers to donate money to charity based on ME playing games for 24 hours. They are going to think it's a suckers bet! Smiley Very Happy I realize this says more about me than the program. I hope it raises a lot of money for the kids. Smiley Happy

Re: Extra Life 2013: PSHome Community

Playing games 24 hours in a row is no easy task... maybe when I was 15 and seemed to never sleep it would have been easier, yet 24 hours no sleep and a screen or mental focus for that long is hard and can be strenuous if not done carefully... Might seem like fun and games (cause it is) yet it is also exausting and can become tedious... so with that I also caution anyone who signs up to read about health risks and also a heathy diet and other health pre-caustions to be taken into consideration before this event... I do not know of any other events of this kind that are 24-25 hours... thats a very long period of time... another very helpful thing to think about is a crew to back you up so to speak... some one to check in on you and help keep you awake, hydraded and can tell when you are too fatigued... or similar... its good to have a team too...

Yeah, I thought something like that last year, but I did it anyway and ended up raising over $200! I figured if I'm on PS3 all the time anyway, I may as well be playing for a good cause! Go for it Smiley Very Happy

And yes, as Patchex said, take plenty of breaks and sleep when you need to. It's on the honor system, so you can play anytime before, during or after Nov 2nd. Safety notice from the Extra Life site:

For maximum play time, be sure to bring your bucket!

Jersquall: Any new news on Home on PS4 yet?

Tempest_Fire: Due to a shifting landscape, PlayStation Home will cease publishing new content on November 12, 2014.

You and the Skittles. There's a difference between tasting the rainbow and eating the whole thing, you know. Smiley Tongue

@ Steph. I may try to give it a shot. Maybe I can get some people to back me. I'll put out some feelers.
