I don't mind telling people, dosen't bother me too much. I don't mind giving my county for my state either. Usually people turn away and ignore me when I ask them to hop on down for some hopscotch.. oh well.
I've had my share of Home Crazies so now I'm careful of who I befriend.
You're obviously not careful enough as you DID add me. Oh hindsight is always 20/20 isn't it?
I know they are just making conversation, but I feel weird telling someone where I am, even if it's just the state. Is there any reason why I shouldn't tell someone what state I'm in, or is it all just silly?
Is it rude to not answer?
Not at all. As with any online activity, it's up to you how much personal information you wish to share. (And don't forget the TOS specifically prohibits sharing too specific of details such as phone #'s, etc.) There are many users that know where I am from, yet my standard answer to a stranger has become to say something silly, like Chiron Beta Prime. Hopefully it makes them laugh. If not, well...
On the flip side, who wouldn't want to make friends that actually do live near them? Granted with the sheer amount of Home users, any random person you meet is pretty unlikely that they happen to live in your own town.

That's how us true New "Jersey-ians" do it.
