No. But I do pay for movies, books, alcohol and other fleeting pleasures. Some of the things I will have for years, some until I die. And some will simply go down the drain...
Participants spend real money in order to play a game they enjoy, compete with others and hopefully win. Generally, the winner will win something equal (or valued more) than the money spent to participate. Besides, they are all paying for entertainment and fun.
Just like we do with movies, books, sex, drugs, alcohol, carnival rides and any number of fleeting pleasures. The cost doesn't matter.
What matters is what the individual gets out of it no matter what anyone else thinks.
