why does the wifi on ps3 suck?

31 replies 1011 views Edited Sep 10, 2008

i always find myself getting kicked out from games whenever i have my ps3 setup for wifi.

i mean its not like a got a cheap router.

it sucks specially when the wife kicks me off the living room tv and i gotta take my ps3 to the bedroom tv where i gotta roam wirelessly.

i hate loosing connection.

does anybody run into this issue?

I have the problem as well, I just keep mine connected in the living room next to our cable router now with an ethernet cord.

Wifi can suck in general since wireless has a weaker and slower connection then wired at the moment. Your PS3 can only pick up Wireless G signals, no matter what router you have your console will only pick up B or G (G is better, but if you have an older router...)

I like many others found it to be considerably slower via Wi-fi than wired, mine picked up almost 1 meg faster after going to cat-5.

Ive never had any drop outs either way.

i agree that the actual placement of the PS3's built-in wireless receiver is flawed in many ways...it should have been on the top of the console...but there's other things that you can't control that can diminish the quality of the connection...for example RF (radio-frequency), walls, or the specific channel you're broadcasting (1,6,11,ect)...best thing you could do is have a clear (LoS) line of sight of the routers signal path when playing / downloading wirelessly...also if your router supports QoS (quality of service)...set the IP your PS3 uses for better bandwidth priority

You should be asking why your internet connection sucks.

I've noticed it on mine too. I'll have a very strong, close wifi source and it'll still come up slow on the PS3. Lame.
