No all I have is a ps3 no laptop or tv with usb I have a desktop but that won't work I don't think.
Yes it will. USB can't tell the difference between a PS3, a laptop, or a computer. The battery in the controller requires no program to "talk" to what is charging it. It just charges up from the power fed through the USB cable. So if your desktop computer has a USB port that you can use, plug your PS3 controller in there and it will charge. You'll know it's charging because the red lights on it will be blinking.
All valuable information in this theread that works. And don't forget that if you just want to charge a controll while everything is off, you could just get a controller charging station as well.
I personally have one USB cord, 2 controllers, and a wireless headset I charge. I rotate them accordingly on the USB cord while the PS is on. I had a charging dock but it died out (Don't get the energizer one). In a pinch I steal a cord from my wife and charge on the comptuer.
