Hey - how did the PS3 turn out?  It sounds more like beginning of GPU failure.  The short working time may be the time it takes to reach max temp.  Once the unit heats up it most likely will increase the crack in the solder causing eventual failure.  This is sometimes seen as video glitches and eventually under full heat will just be blank screen.  I am curious how yours turned out.
