sorry to sound like a newbie but wanting to switch out my hdd i have phat 60 gb model and i was looking around best but and found a seagate sata 2.5 hdd at 7200 rpm 500gb wondring if anybody out thier would know will that hdd work on my ps3 cause the last hdd i put in was a sata 500 @5400 rpm was wondring if thier is a big difference cause that hdd made my ps3 YLOD JUst want to aviod another YLOD thats all and all these videos out thier arent helping
dont worry about rpm speed...... the difference is minimal. 5400rpm is fine a 7200rpm in a PS3 is not going to give any faster load times and 7200rpm drives average to be about $20-50 MORE vs the 5400rpm counter part.
The only thing that you need to look for is HEIGHT.... it needs to be 0.37inches/9.5mm tall..... if its 12mm/0.47inches tall, it wont fit inside the PS3.
Try buying from a place online like Amazon, TigerDirect, NewEgg..... those places tend to sell items at the lowest prices
The closest match i found for the drive you are looking at is $94.99
Newegg is out of stock
Tiger Direct is also out of stock...
But Amazon has several ranging from $70 to full retail price and they range from the 5400rpm drive to 7200rpm drive.
Amazon seems to be your best bet at saving a few bucks and you can go ahead and get that 7200rpm drive if you want.
