Hopefully the prices will be more reasonable once it comes to the states. I have the feeling that not too many people are going to be doing very many Vita game dowloads, with memory prices this expensive...

I was thinking the same thing, and now the whole external battery (that I bet will be expensive) is gonna hurt as well. Oh well only thing I planned on using extra memory cards for was PS1 Classics. Still hope the price comes down though...

I think the US prices will be the following:

4GB: $20

8GB: $30

16GB: $50

32GB: $90

Hopefully Sony allows Sandisk to manufacture Vita memory cards too, so there can be an alternate lower cost solution....

Those who are pricing the PS Vita memory cards based on the Japanese pricing model should be aware of the fact direct currency conversions rarely apply for PS Vita. If the PS Vita (Wi-Fi only model) where to be a 1:1 currency conversion from 24900 JPY to USD (MSRP), the USD price would have been approximately $324.30 USD.

Sony will price at least 25% (or just less than double MSRP) above the typical microSD card price equivalent of a 4Gb, 8Gb, 16Gb and, 32Gb card because, there is unique demand created and Sony will not have as large a supply compared to generic SD cards. If Sandisc are allowed to make PS Vita cards (which was the case with memory stick pro duo) than, Sony will likely be higher priced than the SD PS Vita memory cards and justify this by selling memory cards with faster writing/reading speeds because this is stratey they have done with mark 1, 2, 3, etc memory stick pro duo's (and the upcoming XC series).

What actually surprised me that Sony's advancements in "XC" flash format technology where not applied to the PS Vita memory card as it could have potentially made for fast and reliable 64Gb (and up) PS Vita memory card sticks although, it is far to niche to appeal to such a high spending consumer and expect them to buy +$100 for a single PS Vita memory card.

I did factor the difference in price between the US and JP for the PS Vita hardware when I gave my estimates for the memory card prices.

I think they are pretty reasonable for a proprietary format.

The official US pricing for the games, memory cards, peripherals, etc will all be revealed soon enough (according to World Wide studios exec Shuhei Yoshida).

Sony probably realizes how important memory cards will be for saving downloaded games, game DLC, and other content from PSN so, they will likely price it as reasonably to SD cards as they can (again, factoring the fact this is a new card and the supplies they need to get going) because if they are priced high, people will consider not only not buying digital goods which makes SCE money but, also not buying PS Vita as a whole. The only way people will be able to play PSP games on the PS Vitawill be digitally as well so, further dilluting that tangental, loyal gamer fanbase by making them buy highly priced memory cardsa will not end well.
