Re: quick 3g question

ATT actually places limits on what you can do with the 3G. It's mainly supposed to be only for social features, not online multiplayer. It can be used for turn based multiplayer like Hot Shots Golf, but not something like Call of Duty or even Dungeon Hunter. And downloads over 3G are capped at 200 megs. Anything larger than that, you have to use WiFi for.

The Vita CAN indeed receive texts. It's been tested and proven, and that is how you also receive the PSN code for the free game inside the Launch 3G bundle. You simply cannot send texts or place/receive calls. But it does receive texts. Yep yep~

How can they send a text? The Vita can't receive texts, and you might not have a cell phone.

I'm fairly certain AT&T doesn't warn you (I have a smartphone with a 2GB limit, I reached 1950MB and they didn't warn me at all. I just turned it off myself).

I do know that (for smartphones) they charge $10 if you go over and give you 1 more GB. (Of course, idk how DataConnect works)

No, there is no overage charge. Only with a contract are there overage fees. Once you get to the limit it either renews the data session if autorenewal is enabled or the 3G stops working. It is EXACTLY like the iPad plans.

Eg. I purchase the $15 250MB session with autorenewal

I proceed to use all of the allocated 250MB

I will be charged $15 again and have 250MB available to me.

If you don't use all of the allocated data, it will autorenew 30 days after the start date.

With Autorenewal disabled, the 3G service will just stop working and you would have to manually purchase another data session.

You are absolutely right. No contract, no overages. You get what you pay for, thats it. Also I would think online multiplayer wouldn't be restricted by AT&T, depending on your auto renewal settings and your MB plan. Playing Halo Reach and Black Ops only ate up about 28-35mb an hour when I was playing over a capped Wi-Fi network. Multiplayer and social features are what the 3g is for. Netflix, streaming media from your PS3 over 3g and downloading games and media will KILL your MB allowance. Just be smart about it.

This is why I went with the wifi model soon as I heard AT&T was the provider lol after the iPhone problem (one lady had a 1200 bill for going over on data with her iphone when they first came out) I said no thank you. My phone has unlimited data and tethering. I go WAY over 250mb a month on my phone alone and I dont even stream or game on it lol

You can't go over. It just stops your service when you have used all your data.

Yep, that's what it does. AT&T has the fastest 3G network and they are GSM vs CDMA which allows Sony to release the same 3G model around the world without having to worry about network compatibility.

ATM, you can't "stream or game on it" over 3G so 250MB should be enough per month. 3GB seems like overkill at the moment.
