ps2 backward compatibility app for ps3

31 replies 19032 views Edited Jan 27, 2013
I had recently downloaded an app from the psn store that in the description allows you to play ps2 games. I was very excited to download it although when the download finished I could not play any ps2 games that I had put into my ps3 system model is a ps3 slim (cech 2001-A) the download has resulted in being pointless.

Yeah...  that app only allows PS3s that are already backward compatible to use the Hard Drive for PS2 games that required it (one of the Final Fantasy games specifically, IIRC).

Thats so dumb! And especially since the slim has the option to create internal memory cards. I bet it will never come around and it will instead be released for the ps4 Smiley Tongue . How dissapointing. I would rather load a ps2 disc instead of a ps1 in my opinion. Atleast to play kingdom hearts games or dot hack

All models of the PS3 console use the same firmware. The internal memory card utility is for people who still have the original models that do play PS2 games. There will be no addon to play PS2 games on the current models, because they lack the necessary hardware to run them.

Brother, it's been SIX YEARS. You're a little late to the party, and if you're still saying "there's no good PS3 games", then you need to reexamine whether or not the PS3 suits your gaming needs.

Then why not play them on your PS2? And "but... but.. .but... but.. I want to play them on my PS3" is not an acceptable answer. You have the means to play them, so your complaint is invalid.

Well why not. The ability to play all ps system games is simpler than setting up a whole obsolete console. Why else would the ps3 need internet why not just use a computer. Why play online games with people why not just split screen it. Why listen to music on a ps3 why not just play music on a device that is meant to play music. Why watch tv on it when you already have a tv or look at pictures when you can look at them off the thing you took the picture from. I doubt you only use your ps3 just to play a ps3 game. And plus why dont people go buy a ps1 instead since "ps3 is only meant for ps3" . Its the ease of access and everyone prefers it. Like smart phones and transportation.
