is Backward Compatibility important to you?

This is refering to the ps4. Rumors has it, it wont be BC with ps1, ps2, ps3 games. From what i've been reading, they argue that ps4 is use to play ps4 games so it doesnt need BC. If you want to play ps3 games, go buy a ps3. If you want to play ps2 games go out and buy a ps2, ect. Then why is ps2 BC with ps1 games, and ps3 first-second gen BC with ps1 and ps2? So we should have out a ps1 to play ps1 games, ps2 out to play ps2 games, a ps3 out to play ps3, and ps4 out to play ps4 games? It will take up room and too many wires to mess with. For me, BC is important. Sometime i love going back and play old games without getting out the old system. If ps4 is not BC, i might, or might not buy a ps4. I dont want to get out every ps system just to play games for that system.

I'm sure that if Sony could easily make the PS4 BC with previous generation games they would, because it helps with early adoption. But in the case of the PS4, it is rumored to use totally different technology than the PS3 making PS3 emulation challenging to say the least.

The PS2 had the main PS1 processor on its motherboard, as part of its operation, so it was easy to maintain PS1 BC. The early PS3's had to add the PS2 CPU/GPU on the motherboard, and that processor didn't function for PS3 games at all. I would guess Sony would have to do something similar for the PS4 to maintain BC with PS3 games, which would add to its manufacturing expense.

I would expect the PS4 will still be able to play PS1 games (because they can be easily emulated through software), and perhaps PS2 Classics (since they have be recoded).

Since the X720 is rumored not to be BC either, I don't think the PS4 will be at that big of a disadvantage making a console that isn't BC. If Sony can deliver the PS4 at $299, at that pricepoint I don't think too many people are going to mind since it won't be the huge investment that the PS3 was....

It is extremely important to me but Sony doesn't give a sh*t about what it's loyal paying customers want so they won't give us backwards compatibility.

Compibility - never heard of it!

Compatibility - not important at all.

IMO only a small vocal minority at this point find PS2 BC is still important to them...

If I'm spending all this money on a NEW game system (and the operative word here is "new"), then I'm going to want to play NEW games to go with it.

Despite what the "vocal minority" want to believe, it's not a slap in the face, or an afront to your fanbase. They don't make money selling a system, and then you play your ten year old games. They make money by you buying NEW games.

I guess. I honestly would still use my PS3 for games, but with trophies and junk it might be alittle difficult to emulate it and still work properly.

I feel that backwards compatibility is extremely important for any console not just a new sony console.
