If you only have a PSP, the best way to sign up for PSN is through Sony's PSN Website: us.playstation.com/psn*. (You can visit this site through the PSP web browser, if you wish, but it is formatted for computer screens). By using this website, you will have more control during the sign-up process than you would on a PSP--as in having the ability to create a Master Account and Sub-Accounts. If you have children, it is particularly useful to create a PSN Master Account for yourself, and Sub-Accounts for your children with restrictions of your choosing (for example, you can set spending limits, or enable parental lock for certain content).
