games with online passes

11 replies 127 views Edited Apr 1, 2013

why cant we buy a brand new game for $50 if we dont want the online pass? It costs $9.99 for an online pass through the ps store. lets say i bought God Of War and only wanted to play the campaign. then the game should only be $50!! why are you charging us for something we may not want anyways. at least give us the option.

or why not make discs without the multiplayer and sell them cheaper ? lol its not gonna happen, online passes were created to cripple used game sales and try and get a little profit from them, its nothing meant to make new games cheaper

your only option would be buying it new and sell the pass to someone else, or buy the game used

The only thing I could see you doing is buying the game used instead. Online Passes are going to be the norm now and the Online Pass with the game is just a freebie for buying the game new.

Remember: older, Single Player only games, like inFamous, cost $60 and they didn't have an Online Pass. Smiley Wink

If anything, this would make Used Games cheaper because no one would pay $30-$40 for used with an $10 online pass.

Then work out if buying new is cheaper than buying used with online pass. Probably talk to the shop as well how this price won't work with online pass, should coax them to lower their price. Smiley Tongue

Online passes are so the devs can actually make money, instead og gamestop getting most of its profits. Used game sales don't benefit the devs. Online Passes are 10 bucks in the PS store because if you buy a game used, a dev doesn't make profit on it, so if you want to play online, you can at least give them 10 bucks of what they deserve...

Because you're already paying the FULL PRICE of the game. That money goes back to the publisher and developer.

Used game purchases do not go to the publisher/developer... they go into the pockets of the reseller.

games that require online passes are done for those who buy the games used because without the online pass, the publisher/developer does not see any money come from the sale of the game... they need the sale of online passes to justify the high costs of server maintenance for the online component. A company like Activision is spending close to six figures or more per month for the building, property tax, water, utilities, employees.....

If you have no desire to play a game online... then just buy the game used.... thats essentially what you're asking.

Why try to justify a $10 discount, if you can buy the games used for nearly half the cost of buying new?

Because regardless if you want to play the online portion or not, it still costs money to run and maintain the servers, create downloads, host them on the Playstation Store, and make and distribute patches on the network. If you're asking them to make the games ten bucks cheaper, that means it will cost the other people who want to play the games online ten dollars MORE. That's hardly fair.

This is a BUSINESS. They aren't here to be swell guys and bring video games to the masses, and doing all of the things I stated costs MONEY.

Basically, just give them your money if you want to see a sequel, DLC, or lag free online play. They deserve it more than Gamestop does Smiley Wink
