I'm pretty sure, but don't quote me, that they Bluray drive and hard drive are compatible.  You could probably even find a cheaper, and larger, hard drive.

the hard drive would work in the 40 gig from your 60 gig, with the exception that your data will not transfer over to the other system, but there could be a problem with the bluray drive working. the problem is, that particular model of 40GB CECHG01 ps3 can have either of the two bluray drives that sony made for the fat ps3s. the launch consoles only have the single laser assembly bluray drive in them, but there are a few models after that, that can have either that drive, or the one with the dual laser assembly in it. you cannot mix match the two bluray drives, so if it has a single laser assembly in it, it will need to be replaced with a single laser assembly bluray drive, or vice versa.

also the sisterboard on the brdrive is mated to the mb of your unit . so, easier to just change the lens, or get the exact same model of brdrive and swap the sisterboard,

you cant just pull a br drive out of any unit and stick it into another one.

Also the power supplies are compatible, I recommend you replace your 60GB power supply with the 40GB one, to get a cooler running system...

Hi. I just want to verify if I understood correctly. I have a 40gb CECHG01 PS3 which uses the single-lense, KEM-400AAA bluray drive. Can I replace bluray drives(and PCB boards) with the newer 40gb CECHH01 PS3 wich uses the dual-lense, KEM-410ACA(I think, not sure) bluray drive. The bluray drives from these 2 systems look different from the bottom; the pcb board is visible on the bottom of the CECHG01's bluray drive but not on the CECHH01's bluray drive.  I only have the CECHG01 bluray drive and I would like to have this confirmed before I buy. Thank you.
