Will this hard drive work?

4 replies 99 views Edited May 18, 2013

I am trying to upgrade my HDD space on an 80GB PS3. Will this hard drive work for replacing the original one? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037NYQ7K/sr=1-1/qid=1368653403/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me...

Don't see why it wouldn't. Any 2.5" SATA laptop/notebook drive should work, as long as it fits in the carriage.

Not bad, I put a 500gb drive in my 60gb PS3 in 2007. I still have over 300gb of free space haha. Back then it cost me $115 on newegg. A month I just got a 1TB drive from best buy for $89, It went into my laptop but it would work with my PS3. The challange is filling the drive up lol Smiley Tongue

I purchased the 500gb of this harddrive a couple months back. Haven't had any issues thus far, and it's incredibly nice to have my entire library of games installd and updated.

Do note, that you'll have to format the harddrive once you get it to FAT32 format. I used this link to help out:

 http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/formatting-external-hard-drive-to-fat-32/

I beleive that I had to download the latest ps3 update, This is copy and pasted directly from Sony's website:

Be sure to save the update data as noted below. If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3™ system will not recognize the update data. The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.

  • Location: Save in the “PS3” folder > “UPDATE” folder
  • File name: Save as file name “PS3UPDAT.PUP”

http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/pc_update/

The update can also be found on that link.

It's a very easy process, but it wasn't as simple as plugging it in and hitting "backup".

Anyway, I hope this helps, and enjoy your expanded ps3 memory! Smiley Happy
