Will the Playstation 4 allow for game sharing?

12 replies 1223 views Edited Jun 12, 2013

Will the Playstation 4 allow for content to be downloaded to two PS4's similar to the PS3?

I've been trying to google this for quite some time now, and maybe I'm blind... but I haven't managed to find any details about it. Ever since I had a PS3 I've been sharing games with my brother and vise versa... and this simple feature made me adore the console. Naturally, this is a make or break deal for me. Allowing for content to be used and downloaded to two consoles is unique, and it makes the playstation stand out compared to the alternatives (Wii U, XBox, PC gaming). And well, it also gives that nostalgic feel of the PS1 days where I would play games with my brother. He'd say "Yo, wanna play some Bloody Roar?", and of course I'd reply "YEAH!"... things on the PS3 didn't change much... as he'd say "Yo, wanna play a game?", and I'd reply "YEAH... gimme a second to download it!".

Anyway, maybe someone here has heard of details about this. Any information would be appreciated.

I don't believe they have spoke about that. That would be an interesting question for a journalist to ask during E3.

Isn't game sharing against the Terms of Service? Sony highly discourages this, so I imagine they'll try to fix it.

No. Because its in violation of Sony's Terms of Service.

And if you still do find someway to gameshare.... get ready to have your account banned

I don't see anything wrong with sharing with his brother... I have 2 ps3s in my house and love this feature too, since I don't want to share my ps3 with anyone. Since it's not that expensive it's possible I will end up with 2 ps4s eventually too.

The games that you buy on the PS store are for you to use on the systems that you own in your own household. Consider this, you pay 59.99 for a game on the PS store for Call of Duty Black Ops. I use that game as an example because the COD series is a runaway hit with millions of PSN users. You download it and install it but you have another system as well that you want to play it on so you log in with your PSN account on that system and download COD Black Ops to it. That is a correct usage of your game content activations. Now rewind a little bit. Say that you have purchased COD Black Ops and activated it on one system (you have one activation left) and your friend comes over and you play the game. Your friend wants to play the game on his own PS3 but he does not have the 59.99 to purchase it from the PS store. You decide to give your email and password to your friend. He creates a new user on his PS3 and signs into your PSN account and downloads COD Black Ops to his PS3 and spends the rest of the day happily playing it.

You think you have been a good friend but what you have not considered is that you have cheated Activision (the makers of COD Black Ops) out of their rightful 60 bucks. Many of the people who work on these games to make them an awesome success work extremely long hours. Some work with very little sleep and many work to the point of exhaustion to ensure the game is a hit and that a lot of people will buy it. With your one act, you have literally spat in the face of Activision and all the hard work it's employees put into making COD Black Ops the runaway hit it has become. Any game maker is in business to make a profit. That is no sin as many people would have you believe. It is the very essence of business. If a business is not profitable then it will collapse. That has been true since the dawn of business.

sharing with your brother, as long as he live in the same house isnt consider game sharing. But if he or even a friend live in a different house than you, you CAN NOT give out your psn info so they can play for free. That is game piracy and is illegal in the US and probably around the world. Why should your bro or even a friend who does not live in the same household be able to play a $60 game for free when they didnt pay for it.

PS4 will allow you to share the physical disc game. You can share a physical PS4 disc games, trade the disc, sell the physical PS4 disc game.

But you CANNOT "Gameshare" by violating this part of the PSN Terms of Service:

You must keep your password and other account details secret (other than your Online ID), and not share them with anyone else, to prevent unauthorised use of your Sony Entertainment Network account. If you share account details with someone who uses your account in breach of these Conditions or we believe that your account has been compromised, your account and/or access to Sony Entertainment Network may be suspended or terminated.
