Wifi Range Trouble

6 replies 77 views Edited Dec 25, 2012

Hello I just got my vita and the wifi range seems kinda low for when I go across to the other side of my house like the percentage is kinda low like below 30-40%. Is this normal? Can the range ever be improved?

Does it work well? You can have 100% Signal Strength but a really poor connection. If it works alright, then there's no need to mess around with it.

I, for example, have a signal strength of 20-50% but have good online connection all the time.

Signal Strength and Signal Quality are two different things, and it is possible to have 100% Signal yet have it unusable due to poor signal quality.

Okay. Well it seems to work fine. Really fast actually. Just the connection is low a lot of the time like 20% to 40% unless I am pretty close but it seems as if it is something I should not worry about coming from you. Hopefully that is all.

EDIT: I also tested my old psp and it seems to have a stronger signal. :/ I don't know why.

Because the PSP is 802.11b only, and the Vita is 802.11g/n.

Wi-Fi Type B has a top speed of 11Mbps, which can be easily maintained on poorer signal conditions than the 54Mbps of Type G or the 100-300Mbps of Type N.

I can take my laptop and go 8 houses down and still see and connect to my wifi in-house.  However last night i took my vita outside to show my neighbor...... he's literally the next house besides mine...... soon as i got near his driveway i lost all signal. The connection itself is fine on vitas.... but obviously they're weak as hell. They can't reach far.

But like the above people said as long as you maintain even one "bar" it should be fine.
