so ever since the new update (3.10), my PS3 has started to freeze when playing games, more specifically Assassins Creed 2 and Borderlands. My PS3 has never froze until this update and just started last night and continued today; once in AC2 and Borderlands and then twice in AC2 on the same mission i was trying to do.

Now the question is why would this be happening and what can i do to not make it do it anymore?

My PS3 is the 80gb MGS4 combo btw

Try restoring the file system through the recovery console. If that doesn't work, try the restore PS3 system option.

if i do the recovery thing, will that delete all my saved game data?

Same thing happened to me. Kept freezing in MW2 and ACII since firmware 3.10 was installed. Called Sony and they told me it was the Blu-Ray Drive and asked me for $159+taxes to get it fixed. Luckily I still have 10 months of extended warranty left with Best Buy so I'm getting it repaired right now. Try restoring your PS3 and if that doesn't work, you might have to send it off.

Ya, back up your data, format the PS3 and then restore the data you backed up.

Im having the same problem except I have a slim. It freezes on MW2 and Uncharted 2. Sometimes it will just freeze at the xmb for like 5-10 minutes then it will finally load.

The blu-ray drive wont go out in 2 months would it? especially for the slims?

i think that BS. why would the drive just suddenly go bad when its worked fine till their stupid update? im not paying 160 bucks for them to fix something their update did to it

My AC2 froze and the PS3 reset itself.....and it corrupted my save data.

I've had freezing problems on this 3rd refurb, not quite launch (made in china) 60GB.

Sony blames my game discs, but wont warrenty my system. Its happened with Fallout 3, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, Lego Indy Jones 2.

They even put a note on my account to not honor my CR90.

Oh thank God, I though I was alone in the freezing problems since the latest update. My system will turn on and play fine for up to 20 minutes then freeze and I have to restart it. Once I do though it's been playing fine for hours after. It seems it only freezes after my system has been off for awhile and then turned back on. It's weird! I'm tired of it too, every time I want to play I have to wait out the first freeze before I can jump into MW2 or ACII and play for awhile. This is 3 updates in a row now where I've had freezing issues. Oh if needed info I have a 120GB PS3 Slim.
