Why No Realism?

Every sports video game is so unrealistic and arcady online. Somehow they nail the realism offline and just don't care about customers who play online. Really huge east of money even buying these games.

MyTeam has some of the worst gameplay ever. Way to Arcady. Offline and Quick Online are decent.

Yep, definitely shines above the other modes. But again, the majority of MyCareer besides Park is offline. My question is: Why is online play so inferior?
Look at at Fifa 14 UT. That online mode is pure garbage. MyTeam is pretty bad too.

Because the game has to be fun, and more importantly, PLAYABLE. If sports games were "realistic", then you'd have a traveling call every trip down the court, a foul called after every shot under the basket, a holding call on every running play, and pass interference after every ball thrown downfield. Play stopping every ten seconds wouldn't be very much fun, and would suck the enjoyment right out of it.

If you want "realisim" how about playing for real? Put down your controller, turn off the console, and go play a sport. Games are meant to be fun first and foremost. I play games to escape the realisim of everyday life.

Realism can only go so far in a game before it stops being... well, a game.

The online for NHL can be quite fun if you've got 5 other people that know what they're doing. If you just join a drop-in game/OTP it's really hit or miss as alot of people don't seem to have a clue about how to play hockey(defensemen always joining the rush, wingers not where they're supposed to be). It would be cool if other sports games borrowed from the NHL series and allowed players to form their own online club where they can scout for other players to join and you all play with a created player and have to progress through playing games and performing well as far as being a team player and playing your position.
