i have the old pulse headset..

i hated it.. do not care much for battery life.. since i use it when it's night when my family is sleeping.. when i want to cramp in a 1-2 hours of gaming during late night hours..

the complaint i have with the headset is it's uncomfortable to wear .. it's like they designed this for 5-6 year old head or something.. not enough padding.. i started to feel pain around my temporal areas after wearing this headset for a bit..

i'm putting it on sale on craiglist and thinking of getting other sony headset

If you'll be playing on a PS4 soon I would go with the Gold but otherwise the Pulse is the better option on PS3 imo.

I recently bought the PULSE elite's for my Playstation 4 and I love them, If you are looking for an upgrade in technology and features, this headset would be your go to (bass impact is very cool). The Gold is a good choice also but has no Bassimpact, it is a little cheaper though and I'm hearing its the most comfortable so far, I guess it too has great battery life, and I am hearing its very well built compared to the old ones.

Pro's

- I feel like I get great battery life

- I take good care of mine and they are still perfect (built well too)

- Bassimpact

-Most expensive Sony headset but still not too pricey

Cons

-The headband is not good for long sessions, it has little padding and I have to adjust every hour or so becase it pushes into my head and starts to ache.

-Wish I had an extendable microphone

i don't for me i prefer comfortable over sound quality..

since i'm fine with the tv speakers from the tv (our house had a surround system build in but i didn't use it.. don't see a need)

just need the one that is comfortable to wear for 3-5 hours with no pain???

i do use the headset sometime for long period during the weekend

You can't go wrong with the Pulse Elite, they are awesome. The Gold edition looks cheapy and not bassimpact . :-(

I'd go with the Gold's, it's my preferred headset now. I had the elites before them and found the bassimpact caused headaches and I normally had them very low or off. I also found the surround to be muuuuch better on the Gold's  than the elites. When I had the Elites I couldn't tell the difference well enough between the stereo and surround sound. The Gold's I can tell very well, surround was much better. More than likely the Golds either had a driver upgrade or software upgrade that processes the info/sound. In comparison controls wise, the elites may a bit overwhelming/complicated and are all over each cup - The Gold's got super simple with all controls on one cup with actual buttons instead of the sliders on the Elites.

Check out my review here:

Digital Trends also thought the surround was much better in the Golds compared to the Elites:

Golds -

Elites -

Tech Radar was the Same way, not even really talking about the surround really on the Elites but loved the Gold's surround, even walking away with two awards.

Elites -

It all boils down to what you are looking for in each headset but wanted to give you my experience since I own(ed) both. I also wanted to help you in your decision as well, so I provided links above. Hope you are happpy whichever you pick.

P.S. Take note, if you search Elites, they are prone to cracking at the earcups, here's one example on this very forum w/ a pic.

Golds are quite comfortable for a while and don't clamp as much like the old headsets. The Elites start causing a headache for me within a few hours of gameplay when it comes to the bass impacts. Again, this was my experience...
