Which PS3 model has the most memory (ram) - Note; ram, not storage

13 replies 1693 views Edited Feb 5, 2012

If i understand things correctly, there are several different models of the PS3.

But which one has the most ram ? Or do they all have 256 MB RAM and 256 MB VRAM ?

All models are exactly the same.

Thanks, so the only difference between the PS3 models; the size of the hard drive ?

Would you know if the memory can be upgraded ? or if its mounted directly on the mobo w/o sockets ?

The memory can not be upgraded. Unlike a PC that has removable modules, it's soldered directly into the motherboard.

The only real difference now is the size of the hard drives.

I don't see how it's "useless". The only thing I can fathom from that is he may be under the false impression that the next console will be upgradable. Or that he feels that the current console will be unable to run certain games, which we all know is not the case at all.

useless as the option to install 'other os'  was removed, i went ahead i bought the door stop anyway, never said i was smart...

Hoping it will be a way to install linux on it at some point in time...

Imho, the PS3 has the best hardware of any console, but it would be nice to be able to use it...

I would love to do some 3D work on it, would be great to be able to do that and just burn it on a dvd and it would be playable on any PS3... But i reckon $ony wouldnt like that...

Really? We're still on that? Here's an easier, and more cost effective solution. Partition your hard drive on your PC and install Linux, Unbuntu, or whatever alternative operating system you want on it. Or even install a second hard drive and then you can enable a dual boot option.
