@killahpiff. But untortunatly with the pulse elites, you are spending $130 to $150 for about a $20 audio experience. Nothing wrong with wires if you keep them organized. Understand that the difference between "Gaming" headphones and studio reference headphones are about the audio equivalent of 480p vs 1080p.
If you don't want a price that's out of the park, I recommend the Samson SR850's which are $50 on Amazon and a Zalman mic which only costs $10. Most of your money will be spent on the Astro Mixamp which is $130 but certainly is worth the price and offers 7.1 Dolby Headphone as well as MP3 playback support while in game through your phone or MP3 player.
All together you are looking at around $190 but trust me when I say its well worth it. Especially since those headphones are pretty much a hybrid between the 32 Ohm Beyerdynamic DT880's ($350) and the AKG Q701's ($219 but originally list for $479) and offer a perfect balance of both when it comes to lows, mids and highs. Its basically almost a $500 setup if using the major brands with the mixamp at over $300 cheaper.
Pulse, TB and Astro can't come even close. The pulse headphones aren't even Dolby Digital and use a generic surround simulation from two channel stereo. The mixamp simulates 7.1 from 5.1 Dolby which all your games support.
Even if you didn't want to spend all that money, you could probably just run the headphones and mic to the controller port for two channel stereo which would still be pleasing due to the wide open soundstage of these headphones. I just don't know how well it would work without an amp since I don't know what the ps4 is capable of driving on its own or if a splitter would work. Best place to get this info would probably be www.head-fi.org
I'm my opinion though, the mixamp is a must and the setup I recommend goes above and beyond expectations. Especially after giving the headphones 100 to 200 hours to burn in which is sort of like breaking in a new pair of shoes.
Can anyone recommend a good chat only headset? The one that comes with the system is trash. I've tried the Turtle Beach P4C chat headset. I've even used a 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm adapter to plug my Xbox chat headset into the controller. They all transmit a ludicrous amount of background noise. I'm running surround sound for game audio. I never had this problem on Xbox 360. Need a good noise cancelling headset. Thanks.
Basically right now before the patch everything will sound the same. i use Astro 50's and have the elite pulse also the earbud .they all sound the same in game chat beings it in mono right now. So i would personally wait to see after the patch.
