Well looks like I won't be buying an NGP anytime soon.

Since my PS3 got YLOD. That's $300 for a new PS3 that I would have gladly put towards the NGP.

How successful are the methods for repairing YLOD? I may try to fix it and sell it and use that money to buy a new one.

YLOD is commonly caused by solder BGA fractures, which can be fixed with an oven. You have nothing to lose, go for it.
